Reviews of Legacy Pain Management Center - a department of Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center
"DR. Schrattenholzer was the answer to my prayers, I in a wheelchair, suffering horribly, could barely breathe without back pain, let alone move. But Dr. Scrattenholzer was able to pretty much relieve all my pain, either through injections/radial ablation/ and medication, I have not needed any help walking, I'm extremely grateful for Dr. Scrattenholzer, he Saw me at my worst and was still kind and caring not to mention he was still willing to help me, and I thank God every day for him and his help ! He did something for me I can never repay , except to say Thank you from the bottom of my heart , and to write this review and tell everyone how much he helped me and he's one of the best doctors I have ever seen. And to tell people to give legacy good Sam a try, you won't be disappointed."
"I have never been seen at this clinic and will not be seen there. I called with a general question of how far they are booking out, since this would determine if a referral went to their office or to another office, they could not even give me a ball park time frame. Not 4-6 weeks out. Not 9-12 months out. Terrible customer service."
"Weeks trying to get appointment scheduled. Finally did after they canceled and changed many appointments. Dr told me I needed a lumbar flexion and extension X-ray. She said I could go to any Legacy center. Went to Mt hood legacy today . She didn’t submit the order. So tried calling the office. Got voicemail. Employee there tried several times to get ahold of them. Talked to a person once but kept getting back to voicemail. 2 hours of a waste of time! People at Legacy Mt Hood were great but they’re hands were tied. Don’t recommend this place at all!!!"
"Well, I would say that, barring any other reason, I have not received timely calls or emails back at all from Simon Klein, the Social Worker in the clinic. He is nice, but appears to be overwhelmed and it makes me nervous handing my life over to medical professionals who do not embrace the gravity of your situation being life vs. death. Also, being a terminal cancer patient, I'm not sure I should be doing this at all. I was heavily coerced to try this clinic again after a completely monstrous disaster about 10 years ago. That doctor is now the clinic director who supposedly my new doctor here, Dr. Price, is not controlled by in any way. I have come to realize through in person visits lately that my PCP may just be wanted to end his responsibility to my treatment, and with my pain medications, with everything. He writes things that are flowery, because they are in print. In person, he can be very cruel. It puts someone like me in a very hard position. Will I actually be one of the people out there with fibromyalgia, Stage IV Cancer that is terminal (slowly-but still terminal) and very aggressive pain neuropathy throughout my body (especial arms and hands). Will I be someone who is on disability and receives Medicare benefits, and has never, ever not followed my doctors instructions to the letter and point (with urinalysis reports to prove this, if need be) and still end up looking for relief for my pain. The only reason I came here was when my PCP was still being nice to me and begging me to try it. I trusted him, and that is exactly when he became very cold, and truly cruel at in person appointments. He is not able to be judged by what he does in private. His actions are not available to anyone but me. Dr. Price at this clinic seems very nice, but also quite clinical with point by point charts that are complex and I don't get any personal answers about how this change to the new wonder drug Suboxone will work for me, and if it doesn't work is a question that is simply not answered by anyone. When I asked my PCP, who referred me to this clinic if he would treat me, let me receive my original working treatment, if this program didn't work or the new drug didn't work, and he said: "Absolutely NOT." I am being turned away in my time of need and asked to begin a program which I have bad communication from it's staff Social Worker who seem to only get connected with if he accidentally answers his phone without looking. (This is after 3 or more voice mails and hand written messages being passed to him through the front desk.) Also, email seems to be the achilles heel for all doctors at Legacy. They encourage the use of it and then are upset when you do use it. It's a strange position to be in and I wanted to make it public because with all of my insurance and being an educated individual who enjoyed a very full life until I had a cycling accident that nearly killed me, left me with a LOT of lifetime pain to deal with and then a terminal Cancer diagnosis and that came with a surgery and chemotherapy, which has forever long reaching side effects that are completely pain inducing. I honestly do not know how much time I have left, and neither does anyone else. Because I have insurance and good attitude people think you are fine and do not need medical care. But, the only reason I have been doing so well is BECAUSE of the good medical care I've received up to this point. Now, I honestly do not know what to do. I am completely uncomfortable being treated by my PCP of 15 years, also a Legacy doctor (I started with him before he was with Legacy...) and while I am okay moving forward with this pain clinic and new drug, I wish the Social Worker and doctor were more communicative. Or communicative at all, sometimes. I truly believe the downturn in my relationship with my PCP came with Legacy wanting to not provide pain medication at all, like so many doctors are doing now. I am hoping that I can find a new PCP within a system that this Pain Clinic will work with as I am very uncomfortable having any more sessions with my current PCP."
"After reading some of the reviews on other sites I'll admit I was a bit skeptical to come here. After my first visit I can't say that I mirror all the negative reviews as my experience went smoothly and without complication. I was referred by my PCP (yes, they require a referral) without any questions and was able to schedule my initial appointment within 4 weeks. First off, it should be known that Oregon insurance policies suck, especially their Medicaid plans. I came back to Portland in early 2018 after living in California for several years. Medicaid (Medi-Cal) in California is amazing by comparison. OHP CareOregon is extremely limiting and often with long wait times for referral approvals, the other Medicaid programs like Providence and Kaiser are even worse. There is also some misinformation floating around about OHP, that they don't cover pain medications, when they actually do, just not all types, it depends on your diagnosis and where it falls into their priority list, so it must meet particular criteria to be covered, you can actually discuss this with CareOregon's pharmacy department. This Legacy center is the only pain clinic I know of that actually writes prescriptions (aside from your PCP), OHSU and Providence clinics do not unless you have a terminal illness. Way different than California. The office is clean and the waiting area was dimly lit with only a couple of other people waiting. I was seen about 10 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, and was then seen about another 10 minutes after being checked in by the nurse. My condition is well documented over 3+ years, legitimate and currently requires ongoing pain medications. Dr. Schrattenholzer spent over an hour with me and was kind and polite the whole time. He was genuinely interested and perplexed by my condition and wanted to offer me the best options. At no time did he seem condescending, rude or treat me like I was an addict. We discussed alternate forms and possibilities of treatment and various medications and decided to go with a couple of prescription medications that would best suit me for the time being with the option to try other medications for long-term use. They wrote the prescriptions, did the pre-authorizations for insurance and sent me on my way. Scheduled a follow up for a couple months out. They also have an onsite Physical Therapist consultant and Pain Psychologist, who you don't actually need to participate with if you don't want to, just an option. Highlights: - Free parking, you'll need a validation slip. Building #3 is easiest. The main entrance is on NW Marshall. Oddly, the disabled parking spots are all on the roof level, which means if it's raining you're going to get soaked. There's another entrance on NW Northrup, I believe there are disabled spots on the lower level that are covered. The parking garages can get jammed during peak hours. - Entrance to the building offices are on the upper and lower floors, the other elevators in the garage take you to those levels. - Bathrooms near entry ways. - Pain clinic is just a couple doors down on the left if entering from the roof of building 3, level D. If you park in building 2 it's the first door on the right after crossing the sky bridge. - There's filtered water in the waiting area. - There's also a bathroom in the offices just past the reception desk. - The doctors schedule can be quite full, so scheduling can be a little hit or miss. There are other doctors there as well."
