"My daughter had her hair done at Phagan's. They not only used the wrong color, they did so without having a parent sign consent and used the most allergenic color without doing a patch test. My daughter subsequently had a severe allergic reaction AND came home with her face, neck and head died black. Everywhere there was dye she sustained a significant reaction. The students, who I recognize are learning, had an instructor take a look and send her home with dye all over her. When I called back the school was less than invested in followup, taking 3 weeks to ultimately settle my only ask, which was a change in their practice and a refund. And this happened only after inquiring the need to retain an attorney. I was more concerned with practice change than compensation so that no one else experience the same damage. It took her round the clock steroids and antihistamines and a week to recover and her head is still damaged. In part because the dye was on so long. I would definitely recommend asking about patch tests and process if you patronize this school, needless to say, we will not be in the future."
"i went it today for an all over color to hair go back to my natural hair color which is dark brown and even looked at the swatches and let them know what my color was… come to find out after my hair was done they were out of that color and the INSTRUCTOR proceeded to mix up a concoction of a lighter shade with 1N which is BLACK and give it to the student to put on my hair.. my hair is black now… the most simple thing of just all over color and even that, they managed to mess up"
"I came in for a gel manicure and while my student was extremely nice and I hold no ill intent, unfortunately the polish was painted on very sloppy (spots were missed and crumbs were stuck in the polish) and it started chipping off after about 1 day. I understand this is a place for students to practice their craft and make mistakes, but for 25$ I was hoping for something that didn’t peel off 24 hours later and look so messy right off the bat. The students are all lovely and I hold no blame to them, but perhaps the people running the place should charge a bit less if there can’t be a certain level of quality control :( I can’t afford to treat myself often (thus why I came here) and it felt a bit disappointing to walk away with the sense that you wasted what little money you had. Lesson learned, I suppose! Sadly, I don’t think I’ll be back…"
"When I got engaged I wanted to go to the best of the best! I was looking at all these super expensive gentleman barber shops. I even went in to watch some in action. It was 2 months or so before my wedding and I was saving every penny. So I went to phegans. I hit the Lottery! I got an amazing young man named Alan. It was hands down, at the time (2016) the best hair cut I've ever received. I instantly knew he was going to cut my hair the week of the wedding. I scheduled him and again it was amazing. I'm pretty sure I tipped him double what the haircut cost to begin with. It was that great. And to those people who have a not-so-great experience, remember, it's a school. Did you ever learn how to master something without ever making a mistake? We choose to go there for whatever reason it may be, value, help educate, just like getting more haircuts more frequently, whatever the reason we choose to go there knowing it's a school. Extend grace. Have compassion. Most of all, Remember, hair grows back."
"The student that did my hair was great, no complaints. One of the teachers however came over to show her how to cut bangs. We showed her what I wanted and the student was asking how to do it. The teacher starts grabbing my hair, asks if I want them a little thicker, I say yes, she then grabs more, asks if that's good, I say yes. Then as the teacher shows how she would do it, she just cuts my bangs which startled me. Doesn't ask the length or anything. I have slept on it, and I still can't manage to be okay with them. I look like Lord Farquad. The poor student and her classmates tried to make me feel better about them and I just can't be okay with it. I told the front desk, and they comped my haircut, but I just think people should be warned that the teachers don't care what the clients want."
