"This is the second time I have used Joque at Bill's Datsin in Clackamas. Every time I go there they charge me twice what they quote me. They broke the handle on my car and then charge me $200 when they said it would be $60to install it and $90.00 for a new handle. Joque ended up charging me $210.00 because they bent a bar inside my Datsun. Now my car is unable to be unlocked from the drivers side door. I am disabled and have to open my car from the passenger side and crawl through. ,(Open the door from passengers side and then come around to open the driver's door ,). Great and professional company NOT. I am very disappointed in the lack of professionalism. Very rude and disrespectful in every way will not be using them againhad to pay for their mistake. Very disappointing won't be using"
"most repairs went well and smoothly. However I way over-payed an issue was never resolved [until I took to competent shop] and I payed twice top dollar to get it right. I 1st payed for a rebuild SPL 311 datsun motor & carbs. i was talked into upgrading with a NOS Mikuni carb system all complete with manifold and ready to bolt on. I was not told to install these carbs where going to cost me plenty more then original quote. Wouldn't run so new jets that I payed plenty for. That didn't work ending up with a car with rebuilt motor that was total dog to start and run. Ran 10X better with the old worn out engine. + impossible to start without constant starter fluid ,not the great running precision working carbs I payed for. Later it was found vacuum advance hose going to carb overflow and other issues.I was told there is a "trick" to starting these carbs and one can not just pull choke and start. I should have stopped check payment. Another money drain I payed a lot for their education learning where a sensor was on steering column. One thing that really bothered me was with a audience Jock seemed to take delight in humiliating me talking about charging me $75.00 for a single screw."
"Here is the update to my original post: As I feared I had to pick up my car in pieces and will be having it completed somewhere else. Here is what $5050 and 18 months bought at Bill’s Datsun: $1900 to overhaul and rebuild the brakes. $1000 to remove the motor, clean and disassemble and detail. $666.03 in clutch parts to which can be purchased together as a set online for &408. $425 in labor to polish the crank, hone the cylinders and mic and knurl the pistons. $400 for the new pistons. And a small box of new seals and bearings to make up the remainder, most parts appear to be marked up 30%. I have a block and 8 boxes of parts. All the rebuilding effort has been done to the bottom of the engine. I still need to do everything to the top. In my experience I would be very cautious about using this shop for anything more than maintenance. Jock has had numerous health issues that interfered with completing this project. Based on my experience, I’m afraid large projects are beyond the scope of service they are able to reliably deliver at this time. Original post below: I wish I had paid attention to the reviews. I dropped off my car for a carburetor and motor rebuild, new clutch and brakes at the end of May 2017. It is still tore apart and there is no eta on when it will be ready. I probably shouldn’t even post this as They still have my car. They may be ok with the little things. I fear I may just have to pick up my project in pieces and pay someone else to complete it. A far to common story with vintage projects."
"My 86 Nissan's Drive Line's 'Center Bearing was toast. Jock at Bill's Datsun Shoppe Jock said that 1 of the U-Joints was also bad. The existing U-Joint was crimped on & could not be replaced therefore. He provided a couple of options, including having that portion manufactured. I chose that more expensive option so would not be in the same boat if the drive line needed future repair. I live about 100 miles away & Jock worked to make sure the time line was short & worked with us when time to pick-up the drive line. The drive line should last a long time & increases the value of my truck should we ever sell (I highly doubt) and is more easily repaired if need be down the years. THANKS!"
"I have been taking my cars to Jock for years. Since I met him I only buy Nissans and Infinitis. I absolutely rely on him to keep them running. My sons buy Nissans because of him. He does work on other makes and keeps the old Suburban that I abuse going. He isn't as cheap as he used to be but he remains very cost effective. Unlike the dealers, who just swap in new parts, he fixes the problem which make him very cost effective. If you have an old favorite Datsun, he is the man. We have a cherry 1978 280 Z in the family that I originally purchased through him and he keeps it performing. He is also a man to know if you have an older Corvette. You do have to schedule ahead because he takes his "vacations" to his shop in Arizona very seriously. He builds big block high performance boat motors there. I cannot understand a less than stellar rating for Jock and his assistant George."
