"Loved Sea Rim State Park. Make sure to walk the Gambusia Nature Trail which is on the left when you enter the park. It is a wooden trail that goes out into the water and is just beautiful. You can camp here with fairly open sites. There are gators active in the area we saw one just walking around sitting on the side (photo below). You do have to pay to get into the park. It was less than $5. For $5 you get access to the trails and the beach. Campground stays cost more."
"This place is very unique however absolutely do not get out of your vehicle until you are covered in bug spray. The mosquitoes are Relentless and there is no getting away from them unless you are a good ways down the beach closer to the ocean. I can't stress this enough, make sure you have bug spray although they do sell it for $12 a bottle at the campground check in. The boardwalk out over the marshy area is pretty awesome. This place is pretty desolate mid December right now. Only a handful of campers here."
"Cool little park, but we were not prepared for the magnitude of mosquitoes we encountered while there. I did read some comments before we went saying that the mosquitoes were horrible but took the attitude of how bad could it be? We live in south texas and have mosquitoes where we live... Boy were we in for a huge surprise! We tried to use some natural oils that are supposed to repel mosquitoes but the mosquitoes just laughed at it LOL After just a few minutes of being swarmed, we went to the guard shack and asked for something with DEET, which they provided for $11, $9.90 with our park pass discount. That was our only saving grace. Even with that though, we still had to restrict our outdoor activities and ended up cooking all meals in the trailer and not enjoying the fire ring during the cool nights. The beach was great, and we enjoyed our walks several times a day. The sunrises and sunsets were spectacular! They also have a cool little boardwalk trail out over the marsh. They even have kayak rentals for marsh treks, which we didn't do. But be warned... bring DEET and spray up... multiple times while outdoors! Open and close vehicle doors and trailer/tent doors quickly! And then spend the next hour killing mosquitoes! We came, we saw, not sure if we'll be back..."
"It's one of the best state parks in Texas I've been to. Friendly and helpful staff, cozy campgrounds, wonderful beach, far from civilization, absolutely fantastic atmosphere. And oh, you're allowed to camp on the beach if you're brave enough, with your vehicle! Have been here more than once, will definitively come back. Remember to leave the beach in at least the same state you found it. This is a place worth protecting and keeping clean."
"Went for a walk on a 70-degree, sunny Saturday. The beach was so clean and smooth! Not many people there at all. Low tide and water was calm and clear. Thank goodness the wind was blowing because otherwise, I would have been carried off by mosquitoes! They were not a bother this time, however."
