"I started seeing Dr. Barbee in 1992. I have severe depression. For years, I also had bad panic attacks. At one point, I decided I didn't want to be on medication. He honored my decision, and when others wanted him to talk me into taking meds, he refused and said it was my decision. When I was ready, he helped me find a medication that helped me. There have been times when I developed resistance to a medication, and he helped me through some bad times. I trust him so much that I've participated in several studies he did. If I move away, I will just come back to town every 3 months for visits. Not many people know about his great sense of humor..."
"I. Have been searching for help for my treatment resistance depression for 75 years. Dr. Barbee’s care has literally changed my life. I am depression and anxiety free. He has guided through medication and TMS . I feel better than I have in my whole lifr. I don’t know who was happier— Dr. Barbee or myself!!!!"
"I've been going to Dr. Barbee for six years now. I absolutely adore him. He's completely tailored my treatment to my needs. He's knowledgable and forth right. There are never any surprise side effects because he always makes sure that I know and understand them. There has never been a point when I haven't trusted him or felt unsure of his treatment at all. I have so many chemical imbalances and anytime I voice what's going on with my mental health, I've never felt judged or awkward. I'm since moved to a different state and have spent A LOT of money trying psychiatrist out here and absolutely none of them have worked out. I've gotten to a point to where it's less expensive to fly to New Orleans to see him every six months than it is to keep trying to find someone out here. And also, he does accept many insurances. You do have to pay up front, but I just get a detailed receipt from his office, mail it to my insurance company, and get a credit back. It's an extra loop to jump through, but it's worth it for the quality of care that I receive. He is truly amazing. I trust him utterly and completely. I've read the negative posts on here and I hear them, but I think he's simply misunderstood. Go to him, you won't regret it."
"Dr. Barbee was my first psychiatrist long before Katrina. Initially, I went in on a depression drug study, but we found out later I was on the placebo in this blind study. I continued to see him, and we tried several meds for depression, which I've since found out is standard until we find the right one. I continued to see him after we found one that worked great. He was very attentive to what I said, very warm and friendly, relaxed and easy to trust. I don't recall the financial arrangements, but I think I paid cash after the drug study (which was free) and it wasn't that much. I was a manicurist at the time, so I wasn't rich. He seemed to be very interested in my well-being, and even came to the hospital one night when I went in to the E.R. for whatever I was having problems with. He was my first psychiatrist, and I've had several since leaving from Katrina, and he ranks right up at the top with my current psychiatrist here in another state since I couldn't return after Katrina. I found him to be very warm, reasonable, and caring, and there was never a problem with payment. It was always affordable. I recommend him highly. BTW, he never put me on Xanax or anything like it. He gave me a hefty dose of a non-benzodiazepine that worked very well for me, and believe me, I needed a hefty dose at that time!"
"Dr. Barbee is a great dr. I've Been going to him off and on for a few years. He's a wonderful psychiatrist and I've never really had any problems while I was going to him. From what I understand he's easy to talk to and his staff is very kind."
