Centenary State Historic Site 3522 College Street, Jackson, LA 70748
About the Business
Centenary State Historic Site, located at 3522 College Street in Jackson, Louisiana, is a museum and tourist attraction with a rich history dating back to its origins as the College of Louisiana in 1826. The site includes the historic West Wing building, which was part of the original college campus.
After merging with Centenary College at Brandon Springs, Mississippi, the institution became known as Centenary College of Louisiana and was operated by the Methodist/Episcopal Church South. The campus flourished before the Civil War, but was greatly impacted by the conflict and subsequent low enrollment.
Following the war, Centenary College relocated to Shreveport, leaving behind the West Wing and a professor's house at the original site. In 1979, the Centenary State Historic Site was added to the National Register of Historic Places in recognition of its significance.
Visitors to the site can learn about the history of the college and explore the beautiful surroundings. Additionally, the site is featured in "A Birder's Guide to Louisiana," which provides information on birding locations and wildlife in the state. Don't miss the opportunity to visit this important piece of Louisiana's history.

Reviews
"Not open on the day of our visit, so we saw the outside only."
"Very interesting. Nobody on site except the new electrician who gave me a brochure and encouraged me to visit the Confederate cemetery. Walking a mile on a 95 degree day isn't exactly something I'd call fun but I did it. Although the graves were marked, none had their names on them. Sad."
"Very knowledgeable staff, gave a great tour. Area has plenty of shade, buildings have Air Conditioning."
"Well worth the $4.00 admission. Daniel was a perfect guide, extremely helpful and very knowledgeable on the history of the college and site."
"Excellent tour. $4 per person. Well worth the price. The tour guide was exceptionally informative and definitely has a passion for the history of our beautiful state."
