Sylvan Learning of Denham Springs (Satellite)

"While I have no complaints during the time my daughter attended the center for tutoring lessons, I am absolutely flabbergasted by my most recent dealings with the management/owner of this center. The center was flooded in August 2016 rendering the building unusable. Fast-forward 4 months and the owner has since decided not to reopen the center in that location due to disagreements with the building owner. There's no new location selected yet and no idea when the center will reopen. Since I financed my daughter's tuition package of 80+ sessions back when she started I asked for a credit for the unused sessions which isn't at all unreasonable given the situation. Why pay for something you don't receive, right? Well the owner charges me a "refund fee" which equates to $390. The lady I spoke with who handles this for them says that is a standard fee that the financing company charges them. I say this isn't a standard situation and I shouldn't be charged because their center flooded and they still haven't reopened 5 months later. They have insurance and can claim this fee with their insurance company versus leaving their customer to deal with it. I've asked to speak to the owner several times and he won't call me. It's been 3-4 weeks and I haven't heard from him after asking several times. Nightmare. I will not ever give money to these people again."

"The Staff at Sylvan Learning Center of Denham Springs have exceeded every expectation I had. I have a set of twins and brought them both in for the assessment. Carol who is the director reviewed the results. I was so impressed that she was telling me that one of the twins did not require Sylvan's services as she was at grade level. What happened next is truly short of a miracle. We desperately needed Sylvan's assistance with my son who had just tested out of 1508 (special ed) services in the public school system for ELA and Math. In the middle of the school year, he was thrown into the main stream curriculum and expected to perform. He was in the middle of the third grade but his assessment scores at Sylvan showed that he was at a 1.2 grade level in ELA and 1.7 grade level in math. We started Sylvan 2 hours a week in December and in 7 months, his assessment showed tremendous progress: 2.9 grade level in ELA and 2.7 grade level in Math. His final 3rd grade report card promoted him based on grades but with the detailed assessments that Sylvan provided, we decided to retain him in the third grade to ensure his success. Carol was so supportive that she attended a School Board Leveling Committee Meeting and discussed Sylvan's assessment of his current skills and knowledge base. Carol also maintained an open line of communication with the school and his teacher. With Sylvan's assistance, patience, caring and nurturing, Zachary has made tremendous progress in a short period of time. For the first time in his life, he is excited to learn, go to school and be challenged. He was not upset about being retained and was included in the assessments to show him how far he had come in such a short period of time. Sylvan Learning Center in Denham Springs gave my son hope, instilled enthusiasm and is preparing him for a bright future. Without a doubt, without Sylvan, Zachary would still be struggling and his self-esteem would be plummeting. Because of Carol and her team at Sylvan, we are certain that Zachary will grow into a happy and productive adult who will love to be challenged and learn new things. You have changed our lives and we will forever be grateful!"
