"Do not move here. Do not be fooled by the typical 1st Lake cat fishing on the website. The staff can only do so much when the building is beyond outdated and poorly maintained. People from other apartments break into the pool regularly because there’s zero security and they don’t see it as an issue even though they’ve caused property damages to those living here. Anyone who can just walk up and cause chaos with no consequences is a problem. Not to mention that the 24/7 maintenance line is a LIE, nobody answers the phone if you have a problem after 5PM and good luck on the weekends. If you like leaky ceilings, moldy bathrooms, roaches and rats, then this is the place for you. Shame on 1st Lake for letting the state of their properties deteriorate like so and continue to charge WAY too much money for what you’re getting. On their way to becoming “slum lake.” Pay extra and go elsewhere, don’t let the rising prices in Metairie compromise your sanity."
"PLEASE DONT IGNORE This place have a serious rodent problem. I read this place had a rodent problem but the review was years ago. It’s a good place. It’s quiet, the management ok. I never had any problems with them. But for the safety of you and your family, don’t move here till they rebuild these apartments. Once you see one mouse it’s too late. There will be more coming soon. I had to plug up so many holes I found where mice can get in. There so many holes in the carpet in the corners. Just please stay away. They’re nonthing you can do once you sign the lease cause it’s says , basically it’s not their problem and you have to take responsibility of it. Don’t make the mistake I did and ignore the review from years back. Also the parking isn’t the best sometimes. And the dumpster a lil far, depends where you live. The pictures are mouse droppings. I had to evacuate the home and I came back to these all over."
"I've lived here for almost a year, and for a number of factors, this is actually the best apartment I've lived in within the New Orleans area. I've had "nicer" apartments, and I've had apartments in better neighborhoods, but with the combination of price, location, and professionalism of staff, I was actually surprised by my experience here. Pros: -No bugs. I've seen reviews of Millstream saying there are bedbugs, roaches, and mice, but that hasn't been my experience. -The AC works in my apartment. This is the first time in seven years that I've lived in an apartment that was cool in the summer. -Electricity is reasonable. I've had friends with $300 electric bill horror stories because their apartments were energy sucks. My highest bill was around $70. -Accent walls and patios/balconies. I've spent so much time on my patio; I often sit and write in the mornings when everything is quiet. People actually use the courtyard, so I've also had a couple of morning chats with neighbors. -Eastern view. So much light comes into my apartment in the mornings. (This varies by apartment.) There's a pine tree right outside of my window. I wake up in a good mood every morning. -1st Lake transfers. I'm not going to take advantage of this, but one of the reasons I moved here is because it's so easy to move to other 1st Lake properties. Seriously, if you don't like the staff/area/apartments/maintenance/etc., and you're in good standing, just apply to another complex before your lease is up, and another 1st Lake Property at a similar price point will accept you if they have an opening. -Ease of moving out. I'm moving for work, but moving out has been an easy process. I checked my lease a month ago, checked with the office, and followed the procedure for moving out. I would actually stay here for at least another year if I wasn't moving cross country. -I have a dishwasher and a washer/dryer in my unit, and nothing has broken down since I moved here, which is a refreshing change. I did have a garbage disposal leak, and it was fixed within 24 hours of reporting it. -This place is across the street from a sushi place and a shipping store, about a block from Vets, and within walking distance of Barnes and Noble and a bunch of restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and stores. It's only a few minutes from I-10 and really convenient. -Easy online payments. I like having a record of all of my online receipts. If you pay by electronic check, there is no huge surcharge. Cons: -The apartments are a bit old. I knew that when I viewed the apartment, but I really liked the accent wall. I haven't noticed rust, which would eventually show through the paint. There are signs that there has been water damage around areas in the bathroom and the AC in the past, but there weren't any leaks (besides the disposal, which was fixed) since I moved in. -My apartment skews warm in the summer around 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. It's to be expected with the amount of light that comes in, but once the sun moves so that it's no longer beating directly into the apartment, it starts cooling down again. -The neighborhood is a little rough. I never felt like I was in danger at night, but the area just isn't the best. -For a while after school lets out, the courtyard can resemble Lord of the Flies. But, for the most part, everything calms down around sundown. Don't move here if you hate kids."
"The worst place I'd ever lived. Building are older than me. If you need to fix, fixing by yourself is better than calling to maintenance, if you can. I had toiled wasn't flush, even maintenance came and tried to fix it plenty of time, it wasn't good. When washing machine didn't spin, it took several months to be good. They try to cheap. And The building is Bed Bugs infested. Plus, They didn't give me notice to renew lease, and charged me extra one month fee for penalty. After moved out, still charged me for damages that I didn't do physically. Apartment itself is aging. It doesn't deserve even one star!!!"
