"On Thursday, June 9th, I received a call from my two year old son's SST therapist stating that when she arrived for his session on Wednesday afternoon she discovered him running down the street. Thankfully he knows her, so he started running back towards her when she got out of her car and called his name. At this point his teacher came looking for him and explained that he can get out of the gate to the outdoor play area. She said she couldn't find the lock. There is no latch to keep the gate closed without the lock, it just pushes open. His therapist also reported that he managed to run outside of the building one more time while she was there for his session when an older child opened a baby gate. He managed to get outside the front door before she could catch him. When I went to withdraw my son, his teacher claimed that she didn't see him get out the second time. The therapist reported that the teacher informed her that our son can open the baby gates to the playroom. When I repeated this during discussion with the director and teacher while withdrawing him, the teacher confirmed. While they may have cared for my son on a personal level, I don't feel like they supplied a safe enough environment while he was in their care. I believe that other parents have a right to know about the lack of security that lead to this incident. Both the therapist and myself reported this situation to the proper state agencies."
