"Overall, it was a great tour! Despite it being cold, and being told that seeing some alligators may be unlikely, our tour guide was able to show us many kinds of birds before coming upon the reptile we were all there to see! We saw a total of about 6-8 alligators, with the final one being fairly exposed out of the water for some great pictures. In addition, we saw two owls, herons, and pelicans, as well as what may have been a couple hawks and eagles. The only detractors of the visit were that it didn't feel especially educational with regards to the swamp itself, and there was another visitor who was intent on "catching an alligator". This may have been a funny point for the tour, had the tour guide not provided the man a length of rope with the words 'in all my time I haven't had anybody actually try, let's see it'! The visitor then attempted to catch the gator for several minutes. It did not feel particularly respectful of the wildlife, which was my only true regret for the trip."
"They are great people and knowledgeable of the swamp and care about the animals that live there"
"This review is for the Sunset tour. First, you check in at Bayou Adventure. There you sign a waiver and get to pick a snack and drink. They will give you directions to make your way down the road a few miles where you start your tour. Ample parking. The tour itself started around 5:30. It was a very leisurely trip down Cane Bayou to the lake. This part of the trip is not strenuous at all, so no need to worry if your not the best kayaker or out of shape. The kayaks have a spot to store a bag and a small waterproof box for phones/wallets. We brought a backpack with water and snacks. We had towels in the car. If I could do anything different, I would bring bug spray in the kayak. We had left it in the car, but it would help the trip back in the dark. Lots and lots of mosquitos Once you get to the lake, you get to relax for 30-45 min and watch the sunset. On the way back, the guide will give you a headlight as you will be paddling back in the dark. This is an entirely different experience. Here you may get to see some other wildlife (possums, owls, etc...) if you catch them at the right time with your light. While I didn’t see alligators, some people in our did see alligators. Overall, this was an incredible experience! I would highly recommend it."
"I am afraid of kayaking. Not a fan of potentially seeing an alligator up close and personal. I was in for a treat when Shannon guide us through the Bayou Cane to Lake Ponchatrain. It was a beautiful day and the paddle was much easier than I imagined. Shannon was careful to point out wildlife (including a few small alligators, osprey, pelicans). I'm in my 50s and I felt comfortable with the pace and the length of the trip. Be sure and stop by the Bayou Adventure store check out the unique offerings (alligator heads, live crickets or minoes for fishing). Order the alligator sausage with THE BEST remoulade I tasted on this trip to the Gulf Coast. Cannot recommend this family owned business enough. Both Shannon and Jeff made out half day excusion the enjoyable and worry-free."
"I scheduled a guided tour for Wednesday. The young man took the time to talk to me. Later I got the opportunity to talk to Jeff. He really took the time to address this novice paddlers concerns. He has a passion for this business. 6/28/2018 - So, last night I had my Bayou Adventure on Cane Bayou. I arrived at the store a half an hour early. The first person greeting me was a smiling Shannon. Very personable, very professional. Checked in, got fitted for my PFD and met the other people in the tour. Jeff was the guide. He and his staff transported the kayaks to the launch site. Gave us rudimentary paddling and safety lesson and helped us launch. I had a lot of reservations. The kayaks were recreational kayaks and while not as stable as fishing kayaks they had more than enough stability for this Novice 236 pound paddler. Jeff was knowledgable about the bayou and the marsh and shared that knowledge in a funny and informative delivery. He made sure we were safe and helped us leave a small footprint on the bayou. I will paddle from here again."
