"I can't say enough about the staff at Touro's Neuro Rehab Unit. My best friend who recently passed was a patient there for almost 10 weeks. Unfortunately he had a condition that ultimately wasn't able to be brought into remission as we had all hoped when he first arrived and he began deteriorating rapidly. He quickly became a non-typical patient as his condition worsened instead of showing improvement as the disease he had was unresponsive to treatment for him. Due to the chaos hurricane Ida caused to many long term care facilities they weren't able to find a suitable placement for him so his stay was much longer than most. His family and friends counted this as a true blessing for him as we appreciated that he was getting the best care that could be found. The nurses and therapist had so much care and patience with him and quite often had to think outside the box to solve issues that presented that were not typical of their standard patient. I really felt as we were all on the same team as we navigated a trying situation. Several nurses, especially Morgan and Kristen, went above and beyond in insuring his well-being and seeing him as a whole person and not just a disease at a time when his condition effected his cognition and caused dementia. Their un-matched ability to truly care was really underscored as many staff members continued to contact me after his discharge to check-in on him. That is true caring, nothing incentivized, just a real concern for others that cannot be manufactured. The therapist and drs. were the same way as they took time to invest in really looking at my friend as a whole human and advocating for what was best for my friend. I really like Touro as a whole facility as well, it strikes a rare balance as being large enough to seem like they can provide cutting edge care and professionalism, yet small and cozy enough that it always feels as personal and welcoming as a hospital can be because of really warm employees that seem to enjoy their jobs there."
