"Real old fashioned New Orleans joint serving comfort food since forever. The roast beef poboy is delicious, tender meat shredded and soaked in a rich brown gravy served on French bread with lettuce tomato pickle and mayo. The giant onion rings are on the starter side of the menu. Crispy on the outside, tender sweet on the inside. Just order them, you'll be glad you did. The restaurant is dimly lit but it's a cozy feel. The walls have photos and articles of the restaurant's history. It's a New Orleans institution."
"We waited in the rain outside under a tent with holes in it. You couldn’t sit down anywhere while waiting because the tent had holes and the table was bigger than the tent. So I took a star. We were hungry. Then they forgot two orders. The food was really good. There is a bar. I would say it is not at all wheel chair accessible and not kid friendly. We had to park two blocks away in street parking."
"Overall Thoughts: I loved the food at Luizza’s, which serves both traditional and unique NOLA dishes with hearty portions and robust flavors. There’s limited seating inside and it’s a popular spot especially for lunch, so expect to wait outside for awhile before getting seated. Make sure to stay close by the restaurant though, as the staff don’t take down your number and instead just go outside and call your name when you’re up. Our wait was ~20-30 minutes. Overall, the prices are reasonable for the portions and quality, and the service is friendly, attentive, and accommodating. Note there’s a 2% surcharge on cards. Food I tried: - Oyster Seafood Plate (3.9/5): Didn’t love this dish-- the fried oysters weren’t great and only masked the taste of the natural oyster. The coleslaw was really delicious and flavorful though, and the fries were crispy. - BBQ Shrimp Po Boy (4.5/5): This po boy is unique, nothing that I’ve had before. It’s not a traditional po boy sandwich but instead a hollowed out piece of bread soaked in a soupy sauce and covered with a bunch of sautéed shrimp. I felt that the sauce and shrimp were overly salty, but delicious nonetheless and perfectly tender. The bread was heavenly when soaked in the soup. - Crawfish Etouffe (4.6/5): This was one of my favorite dishes— it was delicious with deep, robust, and balanced flavor. - Shrimp Po Boy (4.5/5): This one was more of a traditional po boy and was also really good. The bread was perfectly light and flakey. The fried shrimp provided a crisp crunch on the outside with a tender, juicy inside. The ratio of mayo and other ingredients was perfect. — Price (relative to peers): 4.3/5 Food: 4.4/5 Ambience: 4.6/5 Service: 4.8/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5"
"Small neighborhood restaurant and bar selling all the southern classics you'd expect. I'm actually ashamed that I've been in the area multiple times over the years and I don't think I've had more than a beer @jazz fest from here. I'm glad I came to my senses. Ordered their BBQ shrimp poboy and yeah, it's the favorite for a reason. It seemed like most people were getting the same thing, although I did see several bowls of gumbo go out. I had a couple Abitas at the bar and watched the Steelers destroy Cincy, good times. It's popular and they were able to feed several large families plus the bar efficiently. The staff is fun too, joking with me and the regs."
"I came here for lunch after a trip to the museum close by. This is definitely a spot that you should try and believe me when I say, try the barbecued shrimp Poboy. I don’t know what I was expecting, but it is not what you think. It was absolutely delicious and I am so glad that I followed the menu’s recommendations. I also had a very, very nice server that engaged with me and provided recommendations. This is very high on my list to share with other people visiting the New Orleans area. I will most certainly be back in the future."
