Reviews of Fido's Farm
"EDITED FOR MY REPLY FOR THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS: Regarding the negative review of the temperament testing their dog failed, there's sound ordinances even there. Places can't just accept dogs that nonstop bark like she say her dog does. 1, it's awful for the dog to have that much stress they act like that. 2, the owner can not only get I'm trouble and fined for that excessive barking, but if it continues after 9pm, and goes all night they could get closed down. The negative reviews are mostly from people with dogs that can't be at these places for various reasons. There's upwards of 60 dogs there daily, and last I saw they had 5 (4 HUGE areas, 1 smaller and visually blocked from other dogs to put more aggressive dogs that do what's called "fence fighting") separate fenced areas to split those dogs and have to abide by laws regardless of someone's dogs actions andtemperament. Lots of unjustified low reviews I see here.. so take that into account pls people? This was where I worked for my very first job when I was just 17! I absolutely LOVED working here and was proud to say so because of how great of a place it is for the dogs that go here, whether it was for "daycare", or for longer-term care, the dogs are cared for SO well! Ive worked many other kennels in the olympia/tumwater area and had to leave those places from seeing such awful abuse, lack of care, deplorable conditions, lies told to theor customers, or being charged for things like training or outdoor play time (yes. Some do charge this but not fidos farm!) then not give services people paid for at all! I refuse to do those things. The dogs get hands on training at Fidos Farm, (1-on-1), they get outdoor play time for most of the day sorted into groups by size, temperment etc(even aggressive ones get a fenced yard to go outside in, though it wouldnt be with other dogs, obviously. They get their kennels and food and water dishes, buckets and everything cleaned/sanitized daily from top to bottom, and the kennel technicians give love and attention to them all as much as possible and love them like their own! Working at this kennel was the happiest I've ever been in my life! The owner, miss Chris, is wonderful and truly cares for animals. I hope she's well and the business is still thriving all these years later. I'd go back in a heartbeat if I had the chance! If you are in the area and need dog boarding, dog training (they ONLY use positive reinforcement style), or just want your dog to have great socialization and give them play time with other dogs for the day, THIS IS THE PLACE YOU WANNA GO FOR THESE THINGS! I wouldn't trust anyone else but this place, not after the things I not only saw but the things I was told was required of me in those other places. Too bad I'm retired at 34 and live in Eastern WA now because I'd work here again so fast! Lol"
"I contacted Fido’s Farm after hearing positive comments about their ability to work with high energy herding breeds. I have a very sweet natured 3 yo Border Collie and I needed to find boarding for about a week in November. I was informed the dog needed to complete a Temperament Test over 5-6 hours and would cost $35.00. When I arrived, the staff person “E” came to review the shot record, then took our dog back to start the test. While driving home, I was called and told my dog did not pass the test. He had only been there about 30 minutes. I returned to pick up my dog. E told me that my dog vocalized to much and was scratching the kennel so hard he was going to hurt his feet. Our dog is a young Border Collie, he was in an unfamiliar place, and he, like most dogs, uses his voice when he feels threatened. I was basically told they couldn’t board him and E told me to find a place where he do herding or do agility. I was asked to pay full amount even though my dog was only there for less than 30 minutes. I would not recommend boarding your dog at Fido’s. The staff member didn’t seem to care or even take time to know our dog, who has a very sweet nature."
"We have regularly been taking our dog to Fido's for daycare and boarding for over a year and a half now, and we could not be more pleased! The staff is knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I can trust that they will treat my dog with care and respect. My dog's social skills, confidence and responsiveness to requests for good behavior have continually improved since going there! She is becoming her very best doggie-self! She comes home happy, thoroughly played out and clearly totally loves it there! We could not imagine a better place for her. Many thanks to all of you at Fido's Farm!"
"I really wanted to write a good review for this place, but I received an email today asking us not to return to agility classes because my dog barks. God forbid a dog bark as a way to communicate or handle high emotions, right? I guess it was my mistake to think that people who are in the business of dogs would understand this. I will be the first to admit that my dog is loud. She is a border collie mix, and considering the nature of this place, I assumed they would be familiar with high-energy, high-intelligence breeds. But no. Not only is no barking allowed, but they also prohibit any type of bark collar or training collar. Do I need to get my dog's vocal chords clipped in order to attend classes here? It seems ridiculous, especially as it is not uncommon for dogs to bark while competing in agility. It is a sport that sparks those high emotions that cause dogs to bark. I was actually referred here by my dog's vet as a way to challenge her. I'm disappointed that instead of sharing good news with our vet, I instead have to relay the message that dogs similar to mine are not welcome here. If anyone knows of a place in the area that allows dogs to be dogs, I would love to try anywhere else."
"DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS WITH THESE PEOPLE!! Wouldn’t trust these people with a pet rock, let alone a living animal you care about. We have used Fido’s twice now and both times our dog has come back with issues. The first time our dog had bug bites and scabs all over his body. The second time he came back with an ear infection in both ears. Neither time the staff mentioned anything about issues and stated our dog was doing great, which leads me to believe they are very inattentive. Additionally, they said our dog peed his bed, which means they must of left him locked up a long time since he can easily go overnight to 10 hours without going to the bathroom while at home. Furthermore, we paid for extra 1 on 1 time and came to find out after picking him up that they just let him out to play with other dogs more often and didn’t give him any extra human interaction."
