The Hall of Mosses Trailhead is located in the Hoh Rain Forest, known for its lush green canopy of coniferous and deciduous species, mosses, and ferns. The rainforest receives an average of 140 inches of precipitation annually, creating a magical and enchanting atmosphere for visitors. The Hoh Rain Forest is one of the last remaining examples of temperate rainforest in the United States and is a popular destination within Olympic National Park.
The trailhead offers two short loop trails and an out-and-back trail through the forest near the Visitor Center. The area is home to a variety of flora and fauna, including Roosevelt Elk, Black Bears, River Otters, and a variety of bird species. The old growth forest is filled with towering trees such as Sitka Spruce, Red Cedar, Big Leaf Maple, and Douglas Fir, providing shade for the hundreds of mosses and ferns below.
Visitors can explore the forest, learn about the unique ecosystem, and even stay overnight at the campground located along the river. The Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center provides information and exhibits to enhance the visitor experience. Whether hiking, camping, or simply enjoying the natural beauty, the Hall of Mosses Trailhead is a must-visit destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.

"Let’s be real. Most amazing hike in western Washington. We went in the first of march so we had beautiful contrasting snow against the most vibrant greenery. 2 small hikes just near the visitor center. Like walking in prehistoric times. 250’ Spruce, Fir and Hemlock. Hall of Moses is great 3/4 mile trail for the whole family and the Spruce trail is just over a mile. Well worth the drive"
"Easy hike, stunning scenery and awesome visit in the winter and weekdays short and 90 percent flat hike/stroll. Not easily ADA accessible with some of the hills at the beginning It is at the end of the road, so if crowded, access is limited. Room for about 80 ish cars I would guess"
"One of the most beautiful and breathtaking hikes EVER! We went in December. Weather was amazing, moss was thriving and the crowds weren’t too bad either! I highly recommend! An absolute dream!"
"This was amazing! Nice, well maintained trail with many little side view points. The visitor center was not open but the bathrooms were still available to use. The parking lot was totally full the day we were there but overflow parking is available. The walk through the hall of mosses was awesome."
"I was disappointed by the whole Hoh Valley forest experience. Everywhere I went, there were mosses dried-up by the summer heat hanging listlessly on the branches. No chirping of birds. Silence was oppressive albeit the hushed steps of occasional visitors. If not for the winding spring, I had the feeling that I had entered into a dead or dying forest. Only the Hoh River twinkling under the morning sun was a lively sight. Even by around 8 am in mid-September, the parking lot was already 1/2 full. Plan to come early! Add at least 20-30 mn delay by the road constructions. Oh, and buy your pass online to cut time and in case you arrive earlier than the forest rangers."
