About Us

Acid Ball, located on Granary Avenue in Bellingham, Washington, is a unique tourist attraction that has been enhanced with artistic elements as part of the city's revitalization efforts. Originally an industrial artifact, the acid ball has been transformed into a highly-visible and interactive feature in the new Waterfront District. The project, funded through the City's One Percent for the Arts Program, involved a Call for Proposals and the selection of "Waypoint" by Mutuus Studio as the chosen design. The acid ball is now coated in a luminescent layer of glass beads, highlighting its existing details and beauty. Visitors can explore this innovative artistic enhancement at the Whatcom Waterway Park, which is set to open in 2018. Come experience the transformation of this waterfront artifact and be inspired by the creativity and vision of the artists behind this project.

"As I stood before the Acid Ball in Bellingham, enveloped in the crimson glow of its spherical grandeur at sunset, I felt an exhilaration akin to what Salvador Dalí must have felt while unveiling a masterpiece. The way the red light danced across its metallic surface, transforming the orb into a fiery spectacle, stirred a sense of surreal wonder within me. In its presence, I felt a connection to something larger than life, as if I was part of a living canvas, a participant in a moment of artistic transcendence. I remained under the Acid Ball's mesmerizing spell until the early hours, its shimmering silhouette against the night sky holding me in a trance of wonder."
"Probably the most iconic attraction the Port of Bellingham will ever end up delivering. Maybe they should magnetize it so ABC Recycling can attach their Canadian metal detritus in an ever-changing sculpture? More likely, Bellingham will soon have an "Acid Ball IPA" available from one of its 764 breweries. *Gastroenterologist sold separately (but not by PeaceHealth due to budget cuts)"
