Reviews of Shi Shi Beach
"This trail is quite a gem, a bit muddy in certain areas, but it's incredibly scenic. And, the beach is an absolute great! However, I found the hike to be a bit challenging. Google Maps wasn't particularly helpful in getting there, so, just follow the main road. If you're visiting earlier in the spring, be ready to embrace the mud. This final stretch is quite steep, and the mud can be a significant obstacle at times. However, the reward of reaching the beach an hour and a half."
"It was cloudy in the town, when we get to the beach after 2mi hike, including the muddy trail path, the beach was covered by gray clouds and could not be seen through. I can imagine it's beauty in a sunny day. But it's hard to have a sun shine day there. I would not recommend if one visits Olympic and has limited days there."
"Gorgeous and rugged coastline that leads to Point of Arches. Highly recommend this hike as a backpacking overnight trip and stay a few days if you can. Weekends are busy and need a permit and recreation pass from the Makah tribe. Leave no trace, pack out what you bring in!"
"I have wanted to visit ShiShi for a while, and it did not disappoint! The hike in (I felt) wasn't as bad as I have heard/read. Bit of a steep trek to the actual beach, but very doable. Really wish we spent more time down there... next visit!! Overall, it was extremely clean considering so many people camping! Well done, humans!!!"
"I went to Shi Shi on an overcast Thursday afternoon. The reviews rant and rave about the beach so I had to check it out. I think if it weren’t cloudy, and had stayed for sunset, it very well might have been the magical place that people say it is. I’ll have to try again when the weather is good. What didn’t sit well with me, though, was the overuse of the trails to get to the beach. There were a few large, loud groups on the 2-mile trail to the beach. Two groups had pets (sign says no pets). There were trash piles along the shore - which I later learned are waiting to be picked up from beach clean up day. The trail has been widened in areas where people didn’t want to get their feet dirty in the mud - Leave No Trace ethics say to walk on the trail at all times EVEN if it means mud on your shoes. Bring hiking boots and gaiters if you don’t like the soupy mud. It’s unfortunate that beautiful places are misused and overused once the world finds out about them :( It seems the only way to keep areas clean and safe from human harm is by regulating and permit-ing everything. It’s unfortunate that this is the route we need to take to keep our beautiful natural areas clean and safe from humans. (And that we even need to protect them from humans to begin with.)"
