"All the teachers in JAMS believe in overall development of kids. They not only teach abacus and mental math but also teach various life lessons like hard work and perseverance that goes a long way in shaping kid’s future. All the teachers are very supporting, encouraging, caring and motivate kids through their abacus journey. Students also feel motivated and safe when they are at JAMS. I am very much satisfied with my child’s progress at JAMS."
"I must admit, when I first enrolled my son in JAMS, I was a little skeptical that he would be able to focus and understand the concept of using an abacus as he is only five years old. I heard wonderful things about the classes, but I had my doubts about whether it would truly deliver. However, after my son attended a few classes, I can confidently say that my skepticism has transformed into genuine admiration and gratitude. From the very beginning, Sensei Miwako set the tone for an engaging and enriching learning experience. Her passion for the subject matter was palpable, and her teaching style was both approachable and effective. She had a remarkable ability to break down concepts into digestible pieces for my five-year-old. One of my initial concerns was that the class might be too difficult for his age. However, Sensei Miwako reassured me that if I was also involved in the process such as checking his homework and reviewing class materials with him every day for a few minutes would promote his learning and understanding. She was absolutely right!"
"My daughters started Abacus at ages 13 and 9. I did not understand Abacus, but knew that quick operations build the foundation for math and building a strong foundation is key. In addition, the class focuses more than just math and helps with focus and discipline and that builds a strong foundation for everything else in life. My kids are very excited about the class and enjoy doing the homework and are very proud of their skills. This has been great to see on my end given that it is driven by them and not by me and they are enjoying it and they see value and meaning in it. I hear my kids often talk to other kids about Abacus and trying to teach them some of the methods and this is another reason that makes me think that they are proud of themselves and their skills. Based on all this, the JAMS team has been doing a great job to get them to this level especially when it comes to enjoying Abacus and creating an environment where they feel very engaged and supported. We have had other classes before where kids would not want to do the homework or go to the class and this is the complete opposite and again I think this is a function of the engagement and support that they have been provided by the JAMS team while making it enjoyable and building a strong foundation for math and life in general at the same time."
"I am writing this testimonial as a big Thank you note to JAMS Portland. JAMS has increased my sons analytical capability. My sons attitude towards math and skills solving day-to-day problems has improved a lot. He is now excited to delve deeper into the world of math. JAMS has ignited a passion for math in him that I know will fuel his future success."
"Our two daughters were involved with JAMS for nearly a decade. We highly recommend learning abacus as a way for children not only to gain confidence with math skills, but also to train them in patience, dedication, follow-through and perseverance. Abacus is not a quick-learn technique, there is no magic shortcut to boost student math performance without dedicated study and practice (here or anywhere. If that is your goal then good luck to you!). But if you are willing to have your children dedicate themselves to learning abacus, there is no better teacher than Sensei Miwako and no better environment for this than JAMS."
