Reviews of Alaska Marine Highway System
"One more bucket list item checked...the ferry trip from Juneau to Bellingham at the end of September was like a dream. The vessel is comfortable, spotlessly clean. Staff is so helpful and courteous, food is great at affordable prices. Scenery is unbeatable, of course!! Wish it had been twice as long."
"THE TERMINAL: is nice and clean with parking out front. A restaurant (great fish and chips), little gift shop, small maritime museum, restrooms, and areas to walk around outside. Checking in for the ferry was easy as was getting in line for the ferry. The workers who direct vehicles into the ferry have a great amount of patience, props to those people. I totally get why they require you to get there 3 hours in advance. THE FERRY: we rode the Columbia from Bellingham to Juneau and it was quite possibly the coolest thing ever, I would happily do it again in the future apart from this current trip (in another week we'll be riding it back from Juneau to Bellingham). SO MUCH TO SEE, multiple stops where you can potentially get off and wander for a short amount of time, nice crew, and the food was better than you'd expect for a ferry. We had a 4 person cabin and it easily accommodated 3 adults + 1 kid. Lots of room on deck if you want to tent camp, just make sure you have duct tape and you've used some Scotchgard. Highly recommend binoculars and a good camera as well as a good book! Lots of places to sit and relax, whether it's in a padded seat or at a table with bench seating. People who don't use a cabin or tent are able to sleep pretty much wherever they want, which is interesting when you wander around and pass someone sleeping on the floor or wherever they're comfortable, so keep that in mind (part of the experience to me, others might be weirded out). Showers/bathrooms/laundry available. Unloading was easy and getting to ride up/down on the car lift is super cool. If you have the chance, take the ferry and don't do a cruise! HIGHLY RECOMMEND."
"A great place to enjoy the views, some Fish & Chips, watch the Alaska Ferry arrive / depart and everything in between, then walk 5 minutes and you are on a lovely beach. OR, you could take a leisurely walk up to Fairhaven and enjoy quaint little shops, a plethora of restaurants. I recommend OVN, The Black Cat or Calophon Cafe, Drizzle Olive Oil & Vinegar Tasting Room (plus everything one you would need for a Charcutier Board :-) or better yet The Stones Throw Brewery. Again, all within easy walking distance from the ferry terminal. ENJOY!!!!!!"
"We had a great time trying to see the whales. The lunch was delicious and more than I expected. The boat size and space was roomer than expected as well. Snacks decently prized. Cocktails and beer. Awesome selection. Crew nice and informative. My son had a blast as well as I did. It was nice! And the air was breathable. Good to get away from the fire smoke!"
