Reviews
"Nice park. Small trail network."
"There's a recording with Johnny Cash singing a song about John Henry. There's many stories about this man. All are interesting."
"Mike, who is a volunteer at the John Henry Monument, gave us a personal 1 hour presentation with a comprehensive lesson and description of the facts surrounding what we know about this giant of a man and the time and placed he contributed to the creation of The Great Bend Tunnel. It says a lot about the indomitable spirit of the citizens of Talcott, a great town in West Virginia."
"Right off of the main highway. Lots of historical background markers along the half-mile road into the monument and park. It's an easy, shaded walk inside if the gate is closed. Nice park area for a festival including a stage, field, covered picnic areas, and a restroom. The statue is awesome and the tunnel is fenced off, but you can walk right to the entrance. A nice cool breeze flows through it in the summer heat."
"This monument is a tribute to one of American history's most well-known living legends. Every kid should learn about this amazing man, his struggles, his life and his death. We were lucky enough to be at the park when a local coal train made its way through the still working neighbor tunnel to Big Ben Tunnel, John Henry's famous dig. Bring a picnic lunch to enjoy in site at the existing covered picnic table area and learn some local history."
