Jug monument 1501 East Patrick Street, Frederick, MD 21701
About the Business
The Jug Monument is a historic site located at 1501 East Patrick Street in Frederick, Maryland, United States. This park and tourist attraction is inspired by the Atlas of the world's most fascinating places, showcasing the stories behind them and the people who made them come alive.
The Jug Bridge, built in 1808 as part of the National Road, was designed by local stonemason Leonard Harbaugh. The bridge featured four stone arches and a unique "jug" ornament on one end. Although a section of the bridge collapsed in 1942, the jug monument was saved and relocated to a small park near the original site.
Visitors to the Jug Monument can also see a plaque commemorating General Marquis de Lafayette's visit to Frederick. The park offers a peaceful setting with a parking lot, picnic table, and views of planes from the nearby Frederick Airport Park.

"Great peice of history unfortunately moved from its original placement. Very sad at how poorly the north eastern states treat historical places and items. Placed perfectly today completely inconvenient."
"I've driven past this hundreds of times. Since I had to pop into the nearby MVA office today I took 5 minutes to check out the jug. Pretty cool piece of history."
"A historic monument marker at intersection of 144 and Patrick St. near Motor Vehicle Admin., State and County Police headquarters"
"Stopped here as part of the Maryland Scenic Byway "Historic Road". The monument has a parking lot and a sign explaining the monument. Could use a little improvement."
