"Fishing with Larry of Blue Heron Guide Service resulted in one of our most memorable days we’ve ever had on the water. My father, my best fishing partner who introduced me to fly fishing before I could walk, was out from Minnesota for the week looking for steelhead. We started on the river in the early morning with fog on the water and excitement to have a chance at some world class fish. Larry picked the highest-likelihood water based on the current conditions and has unmatched knowledge of the rivers from many years of experience on these waters. We were waist deep in a long run strewn with boulders the size of small cars in the tail out, when I hear my dad yell “Fish On!”. I sprinted downriver toward Larry and my old man as I see a flash of silver cartwheel out of the water. Larry was kind and trusting enough to let me net the beautiful steelhead that was my Dad’s first ocean-run fish. It is a moment that we will both never forget, captured by great photos as well. Larry provided education, casting tips, and guided us to present our flies most effectively while telling us great stories from his times on these waters. If you get the chance to fish with Larry, do not hesitate to do so."
"Salmon river-fishing in July for my husband's 40th birthday and I'm still hearing tales of the 'white whale' fish that got away and the majestic bald eagles that were following them along the river hoping to take their catch! Larry was the most personable and easygoing guide and overall my husband said it was the most amazing 8-hour experience!"
"Interested in catching salmon or steelhead in one of the most beautiful places on Earth? Forks is the place. Larry Ford of Blue Heron Guide Service led us down one the pristine rivers in the area and we caught salmon after salmon as well as a number of steelhead. Larry has a knack for finding fish and provides excellent instruction on the techniques that are bringing fish to the boat. Larry also has a few beautiful riverside rental homes that are situated along gorgeous stretches of river... great places to relax and enjoy the beauty of the area. What a great experience!!"
"Absolutely adorable house that we rented for the weekend. Lived up to the lodge name. Very large - 3 bedrooms ( 2 kings and 2 twins) plus 2 sleeper sofa beds. 2 bathrooms and a large kitchen, fully stocked kitchen with plates, utensils, glasses, dishes, etc. Fire pit outside to sit around on the deck or a nice fireplace in the main living room. There's also a second living room with a large tv, cards, games, DVDs, Etc. Outdoor deck wraps around the house on 3 sides and overlooks the Sol Duc River. It's gorgeous and quiet and tranquil. It's very comfortable and a perfect size for our group of 8. About 15 miles, 18 mins from Forks WA or about 50 minutes from Port Angeles, WA. The owner/property company maintains the property very well and was responsive to inquires. I highly recommend this lodge and hope I can stay here again in the future!"
"So we didn't actually stay at this particular cabin. Something temporarily went wrong with the water pump and although it resolved, Larry (the owner and fishing guide) upgraded us to a much bigger place. It is possible to rent this cabin without hiring his services as a guide, by the way, which is what we initially intended to do. (But who can pass up an opportunity to go salmon fishing in Washington State?) What we can speak to is Larry's abilities as a fishing guide. Larry is not only an awesome guide, but he's also a super pleasant, laid-back guy to spend time with. He was extremely accommodating, patient, and responsive to our needs as fishing beginners. Larry even jumped overboard to fish my Iphone out of the river! (Phone still works great, by the way). He also taught me how to gut a fish and allowed me to be as hands-on throughout the process as I wanted to be. He was also very easy to get a hold of throughout the planning process, since he carries an iphone. We would love to fish with him again!"
