Reviews of Historic Slocum House
"The Slocum House, which is located in the southwest corner of Esther Short Park has quite an interesting history. In 1966 this house was actually moved from its original site by one block to save it from being destroyed. Good thing, because it is the only original building left in what was once a premier residential neighborhood. In 1973 it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so now it can not be torn down, thank goodness. It was built in 1867 by Charles Slocum, and as you can clearly see from photos and videos by Google reviewers, he built a beautiful Victorian style home. Charles Slocum was a trained carpenter along with his brother Edward, which explains how they built such a stunning property. Not that long ago; before covid, you could book special events like weddings here, but if I have my facts straight, this is no longer an option sadly. I have looked at photos of the interior online, and this house is just gorgeous! Hopefully it will once again be open to the public."
"The Slocum House was built in 1867 or 1877, not sure. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Check it out! Cool looking house."
"My fiancé and I have tried to book the venue for the last month. He filled out all the papers and was waiting for a call to confirm the date of the walk through and they never called. So disappointed."
"Great place for small group celebrations. Parking is a challenge - our reservations for parking spots were disregarded by locals and very little we could do, except stand out there and enforce it ourselves."
"I am using the Slocum House for my wedding venue and it has been a most wonderful experience. They have been so helpful in planning and setting up everything that I'll need. Stephanie Haynes has worked with the groom and myself to get all the details in line. The price was the best and for the setting and lovely style of the home, it was the PERFECT choice for our wedding and reception!"
