"I was Doctor Michelles patient a few years back. She’s a good gynecologist and friendly too. I just had one issue and that was I think she needs to do a thorough background check on her patients. I am from Fiji however a Hindu and look like an Indian. My ancestors were from India and I am a 4th generation in Fiji, born and raised in Fiji. It is a multi racial, multi cultural Island and we speak in Hindi, I taukei & English. No matter how many times I told her that I am a Fijian, she still considered me to be an Indian which I thought was not right. I would encourage everyone to read about indentured labor system. Also, I think one of her training nurses thought I did not understand English and started defining words such as rarely, sometimes, often from the questionnaire I had filled out and was going through emotional turmoil throughout my pregnancy and needed to see a counselor but was never referred to. From a patient’s point of view, no matter which, race, ethnicity, cultural background we have, all doctors and nurses should be empathetic and kind. Thank you"
