Reviews
"To preface for anyone reading these reviews, please keep in mind that, statistically, most people only leave reviews when something has gone wrong or they feel they've had a bad experience. There are a lot of 1-star reviews here that seem to focus on one rental in Govt. Camp with valid, severe CO concerns. This review is for their River View property in Welches. This was our first experience with Meredith Lodging / Mt. Hood Rentals, and we could not have had a better experience. Our only hiccup was the initial door code not working upon arrival. A quick phone call (like literally only 3 minutes) and we had a new code and were inside. River View cabin is an exceptional property. The layout is deliberate and cohesive, it's modern but still has warmth, and very cozy vibes. There are detailed instructions on how to use the wood stove, and the starter pack of firewood was perfect for our too-short stay. The main king bed is fantastically comfortable, some of the best sleep I've gotten from a vacation home. Even though it was about 40F outside, we opened one of the wall-doors for a few minutes just to get the experience. Will definitely need to come back in summer to take full advantage of them. The TV and sound system in the main room is so easy to use. It just works how it should without any finagling or confusion. The TVs in the bedrooms are also smaller models of the same TV, so all functionality and apps, even the remotes, are the same, providing a cohesive experience if you're moving your media from main room to bedroom. Use your phone to sync whatever media apps you have to the TVs and away you go! It's an odd thing to focus on, but we've been in more expensive rentals where we couldn't even use the entertainment system at all. Sometimes it's just the mundane, simple things that make an impact. The exterior design is equally as intentionally cohesive. There is nothing that is seemingly out of place. From the little BBQ hut, to the hot tub pavilion, to the little holes in the decking for trees and rhodies to poke through, it's obvious that the homeowner made a conscious effort in the design of the property. My wife is a residential designer/drafter and was geeking out for the whole trip about how well-designed this place is. Overall, this is the first vacation we have been able to take since our honeymoon in 2015. We left the pup at home with some friends to get some time to ourselves, and it could not have been a more enjoyable experience and time to recharge. The only negative is that now we have to figure out when we want to go back! Though, not sure that's really a negative... Thank you for an outstanding, rejuvenating staycation. We will be back for more!"
"We stayed at the “River Breeze Chalet” I wouldn’t recommend this rental home, but it’s possible that Meredith has other options that may better suit your needs. To begin with, the reservation includes a $125 cleaning fee but the place was an absolute smelly, dirty mess. There were toe clippings located under the couch. There is an atrocious rotten egg smell when running the hot water. It permeated throughout the home when anyone showered. We all smelled like nasty eggs. There were cobwebs and dust everywhere. Food stuck on pans. Broken hot tub cover. Soft deck wood, husband almost fell through. Reservation says 2 cars max, there is room for only 1. Sign says you can’t poop in the toilet so we walked down to the river and relieved ourselves. Creepy baby artwork and other unsettling art. The bed upstairs had a slat that was out of place. Terribly uncomfortable pillows. Positive: House was quiet. Enjoyed the setting."
"My wife and I have rented from Mt Hood Vacation Rentals twice, and both times were extremely happy with the cabin. Clean, well maintained, very complete kitchen, laundry room, hot tub, all were great."
"When I booked I was struggling to complete the transaction with issues with my wi-fi. I will admit that I hadn’t noticed the “additional charges” that almost doubled the cost. But I quickly saw that the reasonable posted fee of $160/night had suddenly morphed into over $290/night! As soon as I saw this, I immediately called the company and asked for a refund. They declined. What?! I was told I had agreed to the Terms and Conditions, which includes a 30-day cancellation clause. (Well, you clicked our Terms & Conditions” button said every unsavory business ever…). Impossible to do since this was a last-minute booking just days prior. This is just lousy not-customer focused service. Even Airbnb has a 2-day cancellation period. So what Taj Majal did we get for almost $300/night? An adequate enough house, clean enough, though certainly showing wear, not even what you’d expect from a hotel. “Wooded setting” means a few spindly trees, with a short, dirty path down to a forlorn creek distinguished by a number of weird ropes going across to some equally forlorn piece of land. The back yard contained a rotting picnic table and a long berm of crusty, exposed, decomposing sand/gravel bags. Nothing attractive at all. Not even a place to walk in this “wooded setting”. This company is just out to maximize their revenue using a bait & switch by posting a reasonable rate and then larding the final cost with big fees (including a booking fee of close to $65 - how is this justifiable when I did the booking?). Not refunding me directly after I realized this was a problem is unjustifiable, even though yes, I clicked on Terms & Conditions, but that’s just sheisty."
"I've used Mount Hood Vacation Rentals twice now and have loved the experience both times. For both checking and checking out was super smooth and easy to work with. The staff was super friendly and helpful with questions I had. The cabin I've stayed at is secluded, quiet, and away from the main road. I've looked at other cabins but the Cedar Spings Cabin will always be my favorite. I love that about 10 minutes south down the main road next to the cabin, there's a hiking trail near by. It lasts about 22 miles long and runs down the salmon creek River. Absolutely gorgeous and not so crowded. Looking forward to another weekend getaway! Thanks for the wonderful stay!"
