"suspiciously burnt down a waste of historical value"
"It’s completely demolished now"
"As someone who has invested in historic homes many times in the past I tend to avoid Ohio even though it has many wonderful homes available. That is because Ohio puts so many restrictions on anyone who would buy these homes. Not everyone who tries to save these homes is a rich heartless investor who will get the house and destroys historic value I have saved a few homes (less than half as big, ornate or important as the Trexler Mansion but still significant) that would have been demolished otherwise by painstakingly doing work myself and learning as I go but the Ohio land banks require tens or even hundreds of thousands in the bank liquid before someone can buy one of these houses pricing everyone except heartless investors out of the process. This suggests that the historic preservation process is designed to make contractors, realtors, corrupt officials and the like money without actually saving any historic properties since the land banks require excessive documentation about who is doing the work usually requiring contractors that are impossible to afford for the work needed. The Trexler Mansion apparently has been lost because of these poorly planned historic preservation efforts. In Indiana where I live in an 1880 home that I've saved from gutting or demolition, Indiana Landmarks is a non-profit that saves many of these homes but the state does not require that every old distressed home in the state be under some kind of absurd land bank situation and Indiana seems to have saved its historic landmarks way better than Ohio has even though I think we've had less beautiful homes and buildings than Ohio does. Though there have indeed been many tragedies in poorer Indiana towns like Evansville. Nevertheless, Ohio should really be ashamed when they let this happen. They need to reform their historic preservation process immediately!"
"Sad I was in the process of buying it. But preservation Dayton and the city sat with there thumbs up their you know what and it burnt. Two weeks before it burnt I offered with the city inspector and preservation Dayton to allow me to have it fenced off and have onsite security there. They said a big NO now a piece of history is gone because of them. This is the untold story"
"Burned out Mansion."
