"Having wandered one too many times both in and out of bodies of water too often to claim it was only for adoration or probability's sake, I finally settled down to having lost my purpose. Lake Erie is a fine place to question the meaning of life, so I settled down to ignore the incessant clanging of bottled messages against my ankles, their cries of SEVERED TOE, SEVERED TOE drifting off into the night like so many bats who had sacrificed the most precious years of their lives to the professional pursuit of synchronized swimming. I found myself in a similar situation as I pondered the sensational silhouette of the Ashtabula Lighthouse against the autumnal moonlight. The eclipse had brought dread and doubt and a singular questioning of whether my life had been wasted thus far and whether I had never had any potential to waste, and though the shadow of the sun had not passed through this illustrious state of Ohio, I knew time was ticking. And yet, is this the only call for it to tick? I gazed up at the frogs perched high in the trees and saw them to be ravens, looking down on me as if they could do any better. Ha! Quoth I to one, and he seemed surprised to find that I could speak. But of course! I sang gently to the wind, as if there were one. There is only a moment to be wasted where all lost souls abide, I said to myself, hoping the raven would speak up if he needed to correct me on anything. Geniuses are never appreciated in their time, I told myself. The raven, to my relief, was silent. As the dawn rose, I saw to my disdain that the lighthouse was not where it was indicated to be on Google Maps. Anger flooded my furious fingers as I prepared to post a review indicating so - then I stopped. I looked at the raven, and wondered if perhaps he, and maybe even I, are even further from where we are supposed to be than this Ashtabula Lighthouse with its stone walls and tiering foundations and unquestioned legitimacy and undoubted legacy and brave outline against every new day. The raven then spoke, to my surprise: That's the funny thing about crippling doubt, That it ebbs up and down, flows in and out Of where it ought to have been stuck and stout Where it should have then depended on clout But there's much to be learned by infamy And deeds undone by their selves, crying - me, I've never harmed a single fly, so see I simply cannot be your enemy! Regardless of how you think I deceive, I choose to say instead that I believe. And so I continued on in the fading dark, less another gull-stricken sandwich, on to my destiny."
"Nice, can’t get very close on land , a good camera with 8 billion zoom would help . The surrounding area and marina very relaxing clean"
"Hard to find, Google Maps takes you to the wrong place. The closest you can walk to it from land is from Walnut Beach Park. You can also see it from a distance outside of the Ashtabula Maritime & Surface Transportation Museum, which has some nice displays outside and also has a nice view of the lift bridge."
"Parked at the nearby swimming beach. Because the land is swamped with water going over the break-wall, I couldn't get very close. Not the best lighthouse to visit, photographs are limited to location."
"There's definitely a lighthouse at the end of the outer breakwall. Unfortunately, Google maps keeps sending everybody to the Kinder Morgan Pinney Dock front gate and access to that facility is restricted. There's really no easy way to see the lighthouse without a boat to get you out to it."
