"The quarry was a beautiful stop on our trip. The fall colors were spectacular, and it was pretty cool to see where the rock was mined for the Kirtland Temple. There is a couple walking trails. The smaller trail is the one you want, to see where the stones were cut. It is a loop, so its perfect if you have little people. The longer trail is a nice hike as well."
"Nice little park. Several trails, pavilions, bathrooms."
"The Stannard Quarry is where Artimus Millett (The Kirtland Temple Building Superintendant from Canada) chose to get the stone to help construct the first Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints for Joseph Smith, as commanded by the Lord. They had to cut the stone with hand tools and carry by horse drawn wagons a couple of miles to the Temple site! Once you get to the lower parking lot walk around the quarry loop and you will find the additional signs with more info (3 total)"
"Historical point of interest where the sandstone quarry existed which supplied building material for many of the area's early structures, including the temple."
"Fascinating site that I was tipped off to by a tour guide at the Kirtland Temple. This is the actual quarry where stone was quarried for the various historic buildings in Kirtland, including the Kirtland Temple."
