"Loved seeing the history but Sad that this place is a dog park and everything is breaking. Barely make out what the graves say..."
"We have been touring guests through this oldest cemetery since the City of Charlotte, with help from Nations Bank (now BofA), gave it a major facelift in the mid 1990's. Unfortunately, the cemetery has been seriously vandalized in terms of the historic grave markers and plaques to include that of the Polk family. It is indeed a sad sight for guests on our QCT Charlotte Pilgrimage Tour and Queen City Ghost Tours."
"Great piece of history! It is a neat experience to step back in time."
"It’s very interesting. What the photos don’t show. The Slave section. There is a VERY tiny part that is unmarked Slave graves. There is a marker describing it."
"Small and left AS IS- many of these stones are 150 -200 YEARS OLD. Yes, they are disheveled and left as is for not further the damage of the original intent. Sadly many names of the people of the cemetery have been totally lost to time. 20% are unknown and will an be an eternal mystery. The space is open to the public and people walk in there 24/7. It’s part of the 4th ward. The history buff will adore this gem and to give you perspective the great uncle of the 11th president POLK is buried there. Peaceful, but do t discount it’s significances to the history of the area, first settlers, first doctor, firsts of people in a NEWLY FOUNDED COUNTRY. It’s a miracle these stones are still here."
