"Wow! I've been trying for years to get in on the tour and it was worth the wait. Go now while at least a few of the "old guys" are still around. :) You'll need to be screened for access to the base if you don't already have it. The tour starts at the Cathedral of the Air off-base and then everyone drives to the (estimated) crash site with the yellow chain marker. After some discussion and explanation of the lay of the land, the tour continues inside the hanger. There's a small display area with memorabilia, photos and pieces of Airships from around the world. This is also the gift shop/ bookstore which is the only fundraising the tour group does! The tour then goes into the hanger which has been converted to aircraft carrier for military training. Underneath, there is a military museum with many dioramas, memorabilia and personal effects from all branches and all wars. If you are looking for somewhere that would appreciate your loved one's military uniforms, trinkets, etc, they would love to have it!"
"Historic significance of that base and that site is awe inspiring. To Stand on that spot where such a loss of life was lost many years ago. You read about other tragedies in history but this happened rite here in Ocean County. Rite here in our backyard which makes it interesting to me on a historical standpoint."
"Its cool. The original hanger from 1921 is still there, and the site is preserved, it has never been changed or used for anything else. The first international Airport initiated by Franklin D. Roseville SecNav."
"If you have a military I'd you can find the memorial by taking a left right after the Commissary. Small plaque located in the middle of a field. It also has a dirigible wind quide located above it. Not much else to report. Seems very small for such a large disaster. A bucket list check off though."
"Horribly presented site! Other than a simple road sign, the sight of significance is can be easily overlooked...the hangers how er ever are quite impressive!"
