Alton Historical Society
About the Business
The Alton Historical Society, located at 100 Main Street in Alton, New Hampshire, is a museum dedicated to preserving the history of the town. Established in 1950, the society aims to collect, display, and preserve articles of historic interest for the benefit of current and future generations. The museum, located on the lower level of the Gilman Library, features a variety of memorabilia related to the history of Alton, including old pictures, postcards, and information on youth camps in Alton Bay. Visitors can also learn about old boats that sailed Lake Winnipesaukee, such as the Mt. Washington and The Tonamar. The society holds monthly meetings with engaging programs and visuals, open to the public. New members are always welcome, and sponsors are encouraged to support annual programs and artifact acquisition. The Alton Historical Society is a non-profit organization, and appointments to visit the museum can be scheduled by email. Don't forget to check out the book "Alton Bye Gone Daz'e: Businesses 1920-1960" by Robert M. Witham, available for purchase at the Gilman Library. For more information, visit the society's website or contact the corresponding secretary.
