"I left a review on healthgrades of my experience with Jane Tinker, but am leaving one here as well in light of new information that I've learned. Jane Tinker is not on the list of EMDR Institute trainers and I am suspicious that she doesn't actually have a certification to practice EMDR, especially in light of my experience with her. Here's what happened with me: after 5 intake sessions, Jane did one session of EMDR. When I came back the next week, I reported worse symptoms. She didn't address or explain what might be going on with that. She also didn't revisit the issue I came in for. After 3 sessions of talking about nothing important and her not bringing up anything to do with my presenting issue or what happened with the EMDR session, I stopped going. Now I am taking a training to become an EMDR trainer myself and one of the first things I learned is that the EMDR therapist shouldn't start with addressing the presenting trauma in the first EMDR session. Doing so could result in blockage of treatment and INCREASED! anxiety and symptoms in the patient. Instead, they should do some memory mining procedures to try to find out what the childhood or earlier traumas were that happened before the presenting trauma and start doing EMDR with those! So Jane basically treated me exactly how the main EMDR manual, used in all of the professional trainings, cautions professionals against!! So I just looked at the list of EMDR approved trainers in this area, and Jane isn't on it! She's practicing one of the most technical forms of trauma therapy without the certification to do it! And she's making beginner mistakes that negatively affected a real client's treatment (me). I recommend staying away and looking up a certified EMDR clinician on the EMDR Institutweb page. e."
