"Generally a good experience, but I feel a small bit duped. My car was due for a timing belt change. A few manufacturers make kits for doing that job, and AISIN's TKH002 kit is generally regarded as the best. When I called Ben's to get a quote, I asked specifically if they use an AISIN kit for the job, and Sean said yes. Sean sent an emailed quote that was about 15% cheaper than comparable quotes using the AISIN TKH002 kit. What I failed to notice was that the emailed quote Sean sent me did not include all components in that AISIN kit. For example, the emailed quote didn't include the hydraulic tensioner, even though that component is part of the AISIN kit, and even though that component is replaced as part of a normal timing belt job. Because Sean and I had spoken on the phone, I did not review the emailed quote by individual line items, and that's my fault. Midway through the job, Sean called me to tell me that those additional components (e.g. the hydraulic tensioner) would in fact be necessary for the job. Lacking a choice, I gave them verbal permission to proceed on a new quote that was about 35% more expensive than the emailed quote, and certainly more expensive than comparable quotes using the AISIN kit. That said, they got the job done on time, they were polite, the shop was clean and professional. I also appreciate that they're a lower-volume shop with only 3 bays. Because I made quite a trek to get my car to Ben's under the mistaken understanding that it was 15% cheaper, I won't be back. If you're going to use this shop, I suggest reviewing emailed quotes to the level of each individual line item to ensure you don't make the same mistake I did."
