"My wife and I were traveling through the area when the fuel pump went out on our truck. We were on the side of the road and Ray tried to help diagnose the problem over the phone. After we replaced the pump and the truck still didn’t work he said even though he was scheduled out 2 weeks if we could get the truck towed to his shop he would have a technician jump on it right away. After we were towed into his shop the technician did just that. After some checks he determined the relay was also bad. Ray drove across town to 2 parts stores to find the part. They installed the new part and the truck started . The charges were very small and we were on our way. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would recommend them for all repairs. Thanks Ray and your technicians"
"I have been using Emtech for a few projects on my truck. Not only do they do a good job but they are all very professional and have great customer service. I highly recommend this small town mechanic shop. Keep up the great service."
"Best mechanic in The Dalles! Ray is honest and will fix what needs fixing without inventing more issues just for $$ like some dishonest mechanics in the area. My entire family uses him exclusively (about 8 vehicles) and we have not had a bad experience yet over about 5 years with heavily used vehicles. He does a great job!!!"
"I called Emtech to get an initial quote for replacing my shot transmission with a working used transmission and Ray was willing to figure out exactly what my car needed and quickly gave me a price range. We talked multiple times that day over the phone and I decided how I wanted to move forward, ultimately deciding to use Emtech’s services. They were booked for two weeks, but were willing to hold my car on their lot during that period of time so I had my car towed there. A month passed without any communication from Emtech, so I called to check in and was informed that they hadn’t started work or ordered the necessary parts because they did not have my phone number to confirm services. I found this odd, as we had discussed our plans for my car over the phone multiple times during our conversation a month prior. Ray told me that now that I had called they would now order the transmission and begin work the next week once the part had arrived. I called again the following week on a Friday to confirm work had started. Ray told me the part arrived earlier that week and they would likely be finished by the end of the day. I did not hear from him again that day, then the weekend began so they were closed. A week later, Ray called me to tell me my car was finished with repairs and not only did he change the transmission, but had also changed the power steering hose because it had a large leak. I was out of town at the time and he agreed to hold it on his lot until I returned. I asked for a final invoice and Ray told me he had not done the final calculations, but would text them to me in about 20 minutes. He did not. Once I returned from my trip, I called to confirm I could pick up my car the following day as well as ask for the final invoice again. He said he was not in the office, but would text it to me once he got back. He did not. The next day I went to pick up my car. Ray reiterated that he had changed the transmission as asked and replaced the power steering hose as informed. He also told me he had changed out a broken bolt and added oil to my engine (which I did not ask him to do, as I do this at home on my own). The final charge was about $200 more than his initial quote, which I attributed to the power steering hose and labor, so I paid. He THEN handed me the official invoice that broke down the services and I noticed that he had also apparently topped off my coolant (which I also do at home myself). The oil and coolant were an additional $20, and as I am on a strict budget this felt frustrating because I have oil and coolant at home I could have used for free. I then went to retrieve my car from the lot and noticed that both of my bumper stickers had been completely removed. This was very confusing, as they had been there the last time I saw my car. I am incredibly upset someone felt the need to vandalize my car. Completely unprofessional and unethical, at the very least. Emtech is only a five minute drive to my house, so I cannot decisively compliment or criticize the work they did on my transmission besides the fact that my car now runs. My main complaints are lack of communication and follow through, adding additional services without asking me first, and removing my bumper stickers. I will be taking any future car services elsewhere and suggest others do the same."
"I took my 2001 Volvo for a full tune up at Emtech at the advice of a friend. They seemed to do a decent job and told me it ran great when I paid my bill of a little over $600. On my way home 19 miles away, the car started sputtering and I had to pull over and call AAA to have it towed back to Emtech. A few days later they told me that they figured out the turbo needed replaced and a few other things. I found this odd but trusted them and gave them the go ahead to replace what they recommended at the tune of an additional $2,300. A couple weeks later I was able to pick up the car and the owner Ray told me that the engine was in great shape and I should get a good few years out of the car. I guess this is what I now learn as "fluffing" Because on the way home, once again, the car started sputtering and finally blew a bunch of white smoke and stalled out at 60 miles from Emtech on my way home. A few days later I went to find out what the issue was and Ray told me that he had no idea how it could have happened but the engine was completely blown and could not be repaired. Needless to say I am very dissatisfied with the service and I am not thrilled to have spend over $3,000 to have him tell me that there was simply nothing they could or would do. To top that off, today.. I got a text message telling me that the car with the new turbo was going to be towed and scrapped unless I get it off his lot. I would find a different business to work on your car. I tried working something out and they just stole my money. Bad Review for sure."
