"While the park has a lovely, and busy, playground, sport fields and some nice benches on the lake, it's really the gem of lake Wingra that is why we come. Perfect boat access, connection to the arboretum trails, and views of wooded and undeveloped shoreline. Perfect place early in the morning for a sunrise paddle on the shallow, often glass-like lake. Great birding too."
"Beautiful lake, pretty weedy in parts but saw some really cool fish while paddle boarding. Really lovely trails around lake and overall a wonderful time."
"Wingra park is a great place to have a picnic, rent a kayak/canoe/pedal-boat/paddle-board, or fish. The soccer fields are huge. Parking is crazy though…especially during the warm months on weekends as soccer families and boat people vie for the 20-25 spaces in the lot…and the surrounding Monroe street neighborhoods are a bit “parking starved “"
"As a kayak fisherman, I love Lake Wingra! It has the benefits of being in the chain of lakes (nice quality, abundance, and diversity of fish) but without the boat traffic. It's easy to paddle to various locations throughout the lake throughout a day of fishing, which isn't true of most of the lakes around here. It's also much deeper than other kayak friendly areas, like the upper Yahara River, which improves the quality and size of the fish. The only problem from a fishing standpoint is the sheer number of weeds that are present. While the lake gets deep towards the middle, the weeds are very thick around most of the lake. It's a frog fishing paradise, but don't expect to throw many crankbaits or traditional hook/worm combos. The good news is, even on an unsuccessful day of fishing, it's almost impossible not to have a good time paddling around this beautiful and peaceful lake."
"Great park off Monroe street. Launch is suitable for a variety of boat sizes, but great for kayaks and canoes. The lake is non-motorized so very kayak and canoe friend. Parking at the park is limited, get there early!"
