"Be careful if you want to pay down a loan faster with extra principal payments. Several times I have made extra principal payments outside the normal scheduled automatic monthly loan payments, and they haven't applied the full amount to principal. It requires a call and lots of extra explaining of what an extra principal payment. You would think a bank could understand this and how to apply it correctly. Had the issue with both an online transfers as well as with written checks noting extra principal payment on the memo. No, I am not trying to pre-pay my interest balance!"
