Reviews of Jones Beach Picnic Area
"Spontaneity & 2 bored kids brought us to Jones Beach! There was quite a few people, however plenty of space to splash around here. The water wasn't freezing & the current wasn't strong this visit. It was worth the 30 mile drive (:"
"Pleasant stop while motorcycling through the area. Didn't swim since it was March (2022). UPDATE June 2022: Another motorcycle stop. A welcomed rest stop with the paved parking area, pit toilet, and nearby river (across the road) with a sandy bank & picnic table."
"We visit here a lot, it is usually moderately busy, but not terribly so. This last visit was a bit early in the year, but my niece REALLY wanted the beach/sand. Other than the hundreds of small, winged, earwig-looking bugs climbing on the table it was quiet and pleasant. They do have some spots for building small fires next to the tables and you can occasionally find some small logs laying around- though they are typically WET, so bring your own supplies to get a fire started/dry out the available wood. Be careful if it is covered in 'snow' as it is likely solid, very slippery, ice if it hasn't just snowed. The water wasn't as cold as I expected it to be, still too cold for most people I'd assume, but it wasn't painful to stand in for a short period. There is a restroom by the parking lot, it's the kind that's basically just a room with a hole with a seat, don't drop trash in the toilet as it has to be removed manually. No sink/running water, so bring something to wash your hands, there is a trash can to put trash in, but it was overfull when we were there, so bring a trash bag to pack out your garbage rather than risk littering or having to haul loose garbage home."
"Very beautiful. River is low and water is warmer than usual."
"Amazing! The water is perfect on a blazing day. The sand gets hot so you should bring sandals with. A nice shallow area for kids to play with deeper sections too. Not much of a current unless you go near the ends or probably when a rainfall was recent but otherwise perfect area for family and friends!"
