Carpinteria Coin-Op Laundry

"Grungy Laundromat. Dust and rust abound. Not up-to-date and does NOT take cards or mobile payments like a lot of places have started to. Was confused about some machines requiring doubled quarters in each of the slots on push-plates, and it took ages for someone to help me. Attendant was also very weird about me sitting and knitting while I was waiting for my things to finish up in the washers and dryers. Bugged me 3x about it. 1st time I was asked if I was washing or drying anything, even though she'd just explained the unique coin system to me. (I've been to plenty of places and have never come across machines that require more than one quarter per slot). 2nd time I was asked if I still had anything in a unit. 3rd time, I was pressured to hurry up. I'd understand if the facility had been super busy and there were people waiting to use machines, but it wasn't. I'd hate to say it, but I think I was profiled. The attendant was polite to mostly Latinx customers and went above and beyond to help this 1 whyte dude, but hassled me despite the fact I started speaking Spanish to accommodate her when I could see her struggling with English. (My kids and I are ethnically ambiguous looking BIPoC). I like to give people benefit of the doubt. This was just a truly bizarre experience, though. Next time I'm in town camping at the local state park/beach, I won't come back to this business. I'm willing to drive extra if I need to do laundry."

"Horrible Male manager. 10 of 20 dryers don't work. Asked for money back, gave me a real hard time. Not going back."

"Great little place, they have front loaders and they cost 24 quarters, the top loaders are $3.25, Very busy in a Sunday morning."

"Machine stopped working and had to pay $2.75 for another. They could clearly see the machine is not working and still wouldn't refund me. 2 others had similar problems while I was there... same result. On top of that, they were really rude. The dryers also don't work well, so it cost well more than it should. The man working also wouldn't wear a mask (during Covid). I will be reporting all of this."

"Won’t be back. Should have read reviews first, because I experienced some of the exact same treatment. Attendant would give tips to Hispanic patrons on which washers/dryers to use, but not others. She obviously did not realize I understood. One of the dryers kept popping open. When I showed her, rather than admitting its fault or offering an apology, she gave me a quarter and told me to use another one. (I had already used 3 quarters initially). She then proceeded to loudly protest my use of a $5 (I had no ones) in the change machine. “It’s only for paying customers!” Pretty sure that’s exactly what I was, and when I explained I only had a $5, she made me sell her back $3 worth, which I did just to shut her up. Rude, disrespectful, and seemingly racist. I spent $12 to do 2 loads of laundry. I’d avoid this place unless you’re Hispanic. For the record, my wife is Hispanic/Mexican, but wasn’t with me."
