"Please do not see this provider. I saw her as a kid, from roughly from 2008-2014, and to be quite honest, I'm dealing with the long term effects of not being given adequate medical treatment as well as being encouraged to develop an eating disorder as a result of this provider. Reading peer-reviewed papers now about my conditions, I find that this provider didn't do her homework and see that any of the fixes we did for my chronic knee issues wouldn't work--that at the time, every paper coming out at the time said bracing & insoles wouldn't fix my issue, corrective surgery would and was necessary before the bones grew too far together. I needed an advocate, not someone who just told an eleven year old, "Just get knee replacements when you're 25." This doctor also blamed so much of my chronic issues on my weight, harassed my mother who already had disordered eating about my need to lose weight, and quite literally caused me to become anorexic. The only time I wasn't bothered about my weight, was praised about my looks, and my mother wasn't being inundated with phone calls about her "fat" child was when I was starving myself. Now I find out I'm actually hypermobile and likely have Ehler’s-Danlos Syndrome. It wasn't "just growing pains". It was actual, legitimate pain. I've also had migraines my whole life, and have been depressed & severely abused since I was about 8. All things that a pediatrician should at least be able to sus out, even partially. Even for the things as a kid I didn't feel comfortable talking about, I did not receive evidence-based practice. I received shame for my weight, which turned into self-loathing for my body, and severe self image issues. All over genetic issues I can't really control. If you're reading this, Dr. Daley, know that you MUST do better. Kids deserve a safe space to come to you about medical or abuse issues, and you were not safe at that time--you were part of the problem."
