"Knowledgeable and kind. The best kind of doctor to lead you through cancer. His staff and nurses are the best. I highly recommend his care, in fact I did for my best friend."
"After moving to the area from another state and having gone through chemo and a bilateral mastectomy for having triple negative breast cancer and being BRCA1 positive, Dr. Lewis was the second oncologist in this new area I came to see in hopes of finding a great oncologist out here to do my follow ups with as I had already seen one in this area that I didn't really care for. When I first saw him, I was at that point a nine month survivor. The initial visit went ok. He did not order any blood work for me and when it came to doing a phsycial, he asked me if everything was normal and I said my armpits seemed swollen. Instead of checking it out, he explained what he thought the swelling was which was just scar tissue and still didn't bother to look. I went in for my follow up with Dr. Lewis in February as this should have been my next three month check up (I still was not a year survivor at this point). My previous oncologist had told me that I needed to be checked out every three months for the first year. That includes a physical and blood work. After talking to him, he didn't give me a physical and when I asked about doing blood work, he looked at me and said "You're cured. You need to get out of the mind set that you had cancer. You HAD cancer, you don't have it anymore. Maybe we can start doing your blood work once a year, but your cured. You're a healthy young woman and shouldn't rely on tests to go on with your life." I was so angry when I left there. An oncologist telling me I'm cured? Nothing to worry about? As nice as that sounds, I'm BRCA1 positive and was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer at the age of 32. Not that I worry all of the time, but I have been told by different oncologists and nurses that no one with cancer is ever "cured". There are no signs of cancer and disease, but it's never a guarantee. Nonetheless, I knew that I needed to get tests done, especially since I have other survivor friends that do, one being a nine year survivor who still gets six month check ups. I went to another oncologist after that and when I told her what he said, she couldn't believe it. She gave me a physical and I have lymphedema in my armpits. Lymphedema?! I had never really given lymphedema a thought before because I only had three nodes removed from each pit. She said that I do in fact need blood tests done, especially for being BRCA1 positive. My new oncologist is extremely proactive whereas Dr. Lewis makes me fearful for patients that go to him. Having metastasized cancer is my worst nightmare and with doctors like Dr. Lewis, it makes it more likely to happen without doing proper checkups depending on every persons specific needs and health. On another note, while being in the office, I noticed was that their chemo chairs were made of soft fabric and looked like big comfy chairs you may have in your home. While that seems like it's ok, it's not. Those chairs are not easy to clean and the number one thing for a chemo patient to do is keep clear of germs... that's why so many chemo patients wear masks and gloves. At the last chemo center I went to, the nurses wiped down each chair after every patient. The atmosphere in the office is very relaxed. None of the nurses wear scrubs and the doctor walks around in his socks. No problem as long as their getting business done I suppose. The nurses were all very nice, but that's as far as the care went and the doctor was not handling my business as a patient. After going through a major illness and life changing experience, you need to be your own advocate and if you think something is up with your doctor and that you're not getting the care you should, seek out another doctor."
"Dr. Lewis is a wonderful doctor and very knowledgeable. His RNs Laurie and Linda have many years of experience. They are a group of angels!"
"Dr. Lewis and his staff saved my life 17 years ago. Their professionalism and compassion helped me get through one of the toughest seasons in my life."
