Dr. Adil Daud, MD 1600 Divisadero Street, San Francisco, CA 94115

"Dr Daud saw my husband and I for a second opinion regarding his melanoma exactly one month ago. My husband and I are both physicians and this was the worst appointment we have ever had, as well as one of the worst examples of doctor patient communication. We arrived early for our 3:00 appointment and were taken promptly into the exam room. After 50 minutes he had not yet come in. Before I could go into the hall to find someone an administrator showed up to say that Dr. Daud had had an emergency in the morning, and would be another 50 minutes late. No one made an effort to call us, no one told us when we registered, and the electronic board behind each registrar showed he was running on time. After 90 minutes he arrived with a scribe. Dr. Daud greeted us, then only made eye contact with my husband until he found out I am a physician 20 minutes later. He had not read my husband’s medical record, which was required to be provided before the visit. He presented out of date data, and when he tried to do mental math to adjust it, incorrectly calculated it. Most importantly he did not take a family history of cancer, which was present in the previously presented medical records. We had to volunteer it. You could see on his face that he was reconsidering his recommendation to us, but he stuck to his guns. He felt that a 25% risk of recurrence in 5 years was worth waiting for and, “then treating.” Dr. Daud was clearly impacted by treating patients in previous years with interferon, as he kept quoting this and its side effects. He did not accurately quote side effects for currently used immunotherapy. He also curiously kept saying that treatment decisions depended on “whether or not you’re spending the next 6 months in the Amazon,” which really made no sense. Despite having a scribe, there is no medical note in the UCSF electronic chart for my husband’s visit after a month. And despite our multiple calls to patient relations, we have yet to receive a response to our complaints. Since our visit, I have heard from several other patients and their family members with similar issues. I guess UCSF considers itself the “Mecca” for serious illness, and does not feel that they have to support their consumers A very disappointed physician, Deborah Sedberry MD"
