"My middle child started karate when he was 3. My purpose for karate was to help him with confidence but with karate it ended up being more than that. Like all kids, he tested the boundaries at home and school to see what he was allowed to get away with. His second grade year was the year of pushing boundaries. It was with the support of karate, and making connections to the words of the month that really opened conversations at home, and how those words connect with behavior as well. More importantly GM Flame was there to support us and communicate with him and getting to the root of the problem and help us, help our son. Our son wanted to do well at karate, and make his instructors happy. GM Flame would have check-ins with him and follow up with me that we were seeing improvements. I believe karate has had a great support for him and his behavior. He is now a Black Belt. The values he has learned throughout this journey carries over with him at school, home, and in public with his behavior. My youngest started karate because of his behavior at 3, a year ago. He has a very strong personality and wants to do things his way and his way only. I remember the first 6 months was hard for me to sit back and watch him misbehave and try to get away with everything during class. He would roll on the ground, shout out, not participate, run out of the line. The structure of karate and follow through has helped him tremendously. He listens, sits on his sticker, and follows directions during karate. While he still has a strong personality and pushes our buttons, he does not want to disappoint Mr. Hawe or GM Flame. He is very well behaved at school, and his behavior has drastically improved at karate. At home, he is still a work in progress and very much tries to run the show, but the small steps, and listening more often has improved. We are thankful for Moorpark Karate and the amazing team!"
