"Not open for regular student use for most of the day. I've tried several times to work out at the stadium and have always been stopped by a different ucsd team or class telling me to come at a different time. Can't come before 12:30 because of a class. From 12:30 to 3:30 track and field has the stadium, and from 3:45 to 8pm there's a UCSD athletic instructions class. I did get a response back from a UCSD athletic staff that told me 5-5:50am is available to use the track, but as a student that pays tuition for amenities like this track, it's not a very considerate time to give students. UCSD needs to change this"
"I'd like to echo Shawn Messner's remarks about the gym - I wholeheartedly agree with his assessment. The student-athlete who I talked to during my short lifting session confessed to me that management intentionally restricts the publicizing of the gym to the UCSD community in order to keep the gym nice and private. Hours open to the public are minimal and I was told that management can change them at a whim. This is wrong. Instead of trying to cultivate a community where student athletes and well-intentioned Olympic weightlifters can come and lift together, management opts to keep the gym nice and pretty. This is a loss for the UCSD community, and it sucks."
"Clean! Great staff"
"The gym is great. It is primarily for student athletes, hence the hours. My biggest gripe is that they purposely make it difficult for people to use the gym. For example, you can only use the gym if you have toured it, and tours only occur at the top of every hour. Sometimes the staff makes their own rules, e.g. only one tour per day (if you missed it, too bad.) Then they claim nobody uses the gym, so they reduce the hours. The goal is to completely limit the gym to student athletes--this is what a staff member told me."
