Reviews
"I highly recommend Learn to Sail San Diego. All communications prior to my IQC 200, 203 & 204 were friendly and my questions were promptly answered. Melinda and Captain Ed could not have been more professional. The two boats we used were well equipped and in great shape. The entire experience from booking to final handshakes on the dock were exemplary! Thank you again Melinda & Ed! Rick T Calgary Alberta"
"I wasn't going to write a review, but this morning I woke up angry about something that happened 6 months ago. July last year, my 14 yo son and I embarked on what we hoped would be a super-fun, extremely valuable, sailing adventure to Catalina Island. Unfortunately for us, that was not the case. We were fated to have Captain Richard Darmanin as our instructor. My main complaint with Captain Richard is not his puffed up, egotistical, abrasive personality, but his teaching methods. He would berate you and attempt to humiliate you if you got his questions wrong. The best teachers I have encountered have always encouraged me to become better, not terrorized me into compliance. But even worse, I had gotten my son exposed to this behavior as well. This trip was not fun. It was awkward, uncomfortable and agonizing. It almost felt like we were prisoners aboard. Our best day was when we returned to San Diego and Captain Richard disembarked. We were free! The air was a little fresher. The IN-N-OUT burger was a little juicier. We went to the gaslamp quarter and tried to laugh off the experiences of the last week. I contacted Melinda to let her know of our experience. She apologized, spoke with Captain Richard and refunded $1200. I don't care so much about the money, I just hope my son will go sailing with me again."
"Captain Ritchie is AMAZING!!! He has a lifetime of experience in sailing. He is tough but respectful. Surrender your pride and previous life accomplishments at the dock. Drink in the vast knowledge that he provides. You will come out feeling supported, competent, and self assured. We plan on requesting his assistance in the future to further our sailing education."
"Great people and fantastic fun. They made trip easy and learning fun. Clint is great instructor, very knowledgeable about sailing and many other things. They customized a three day lesson for me and made a great experience. I would highly recommend Melinda and her crew to anyone looking to sail while in San Diego!"
"Our family of four; 2 kids ages 8 and 13 were looking for a chance to experience living aboard a sailboat before taking the big step of buying one ourselves. Our plan is to start our sailing adventure in The Bahamas for two months this Spring and then...see where the wind takes us. We needed instruction on ASA 101,103 and 104 to feel safe and comfortable with our plan. With this outfit we experienced competent instruction and First Class treatment From the owners. The boat was in great condition. All of the amenities/services we needed were thoughtfully Provided including some personal touches. I would recommend Learn To Sail San Diego to any family looking for those special considerations that including kids might require."
