"Horrible place to get insurance through please avoid at all costs!!!! I have a friend that I have been taking care of that uses this Company she has no stomach wall it’s impossible for her to work they haven’t paid her a penny because she Won a small settlement that caught her up on all her bills they haven’t been paying her since she’s been on disability and she’s been on disability for sometime but they are going through extreme Measures now to disqualify her from being covered stating that she can work after the state had already made a ruling that she is disabled they are fighting all of her doctors stating that they have doctors that are more qualified in determining her dependency please avoid this company at all costs we are currently seeking counsel on this matter We hope that no one else Falls victim to This company they also wanted my friend to send pictures of her hernia to prove something it is down in the vaginal area without a doctors request We find that really creepy and inappropriate"
"Rude & Enept at serving disabled even when Dr has written certification for disability as well as being proven 100% disabled by a Judge in court."
"I do not pay for this service my employer does but it did not really ever benefit me. One guy I worked with said I could apply for long term disability after my 1st surgery if my hours working changed after returning to work. He actually made matters worst & I was DENIED for my 2nd surgery because I didn't work enough hours??? While my employer had been paying for me & other employees who would never use their service based on the hours we worked. I worked at this office for almost 20years with an insurance I thought I was lucky to have. Look at the fine print or reality it's a scam. They make you jump through hoops to get paid. Then the payout is not worth it! 2 surgeries later since they say each surgery is a different claim. Unless you know what to exactly tell your doctors to write in your medical chart the need for a surgery & a revision surgery is not sufficient in qualifying for disability under the same claim. I'm sure having Kaiser made everything more difficult for this company & their efforts made. Whomever reviews medical charts to see if you qualify for disability is incompetent. For those employers looking into disability insurance for a peace of mind choose different."
"I recently was offered Unum as an added benefit to my current Scripps insurance as a nurse. I added 4 different things and I am so lucky I did. I am grateful for this additional support during my surgeries and disability time. Customer service has been great every time and communication via email has been excellent. Great job. Thank you Unum staff"
"Unum is the worst! It is bad enough that you have a situation that requires disability but makes it more so when the company handling your claim is completely incompetent. I did not deal directly with the San Diego office to my knowledge. As part of my employee benefits, the company I work for uses Unum as an intermediary for FMLA and SDI. I filed a claim through their website and followed up with them. I had surgery. My surgeon's team provided the physician's statement. I received a call from Unum on the day of my surgery which I returned the following day. They needed my employer's statement. I followed up with my Benefits Manager and HR. There was no record of this being sent to the company. After two weeks my Benefits Manager discovered the request had been sent to the wrong company. Not sure how that happened when the company's name was all over everything. It took almost 2 weeks for them to approve my claim. By this time a month had gone by and I was back at work. The claim payment made no sense so I followed up again and found out Unum made a determination based on incorrect information that they never verified with anyone. That took another 3 days and multiple phone calls. Finally it was corrected and the payment was requested. We are now at week 6 since my surgery and the overnight payment was not sent overnight. I would not recommend them. I will never work with them again. I will make sure to post this everywhere so other people don't wind up in the same nightmare. As a claimant, you would be better off dealing with disability or FMLA on your own."
