Thomas Jefferson Middle School

"I've had three children attend Jefferson, and their experiences have been positive. The teachers there are top notch. This year my eighth grade son is taking a technology class taught at Memorial High School right next door. The technology teacher comes over from Memorial to get the kids at Jefferson who are taking the class. That's an opportunity he has only because Jefferson is right across the parking lot from Memorial. My two older children who are now in high school and college were very well-prepared for high school thanks to their experience at Jefferson."

"My 3rd child is at Jefferson now and all 3 of my kids have had wonderful experiences there. I love that they can walk to school and feel safe. It is a city school, with a mix of all kinds of people, which makes things more interesting and I'm grateful for that. There have been amazing teachers--Ms. Ball, Mr. Serwe, Mr. Ortmayer, Ms. Kintzer, Mr Waz, Ms, Nicolay and many more. Our new principal Mr. Issac Kirkwood has been a tremendous leader, and things are going in the right direction. My kids were well prepared for high school, are very successful students, and I am proud to say they went to Jefferson Middle School."

"Jefferson has wonderful educators on its staff. They are doing amazing work despite a challenging building, budget cuts, and increasing demands on their time. We are one of a handful of MMSD schools implementing restorative justice circles with the YWCA. Plus, we should have classrooms with walls next year!"

"This school extremely sucks. I'll start off by saying that the level of disrespect the staff have towards parents is nasty. I would 100% not recommended this school to anybody if you're thinking of sending your child here. I would've thought that this school was going to change due to the new staff but the only thing that changed was that it became even more terrible. And of course the level of communication that this school shows is nowhere to be found. The school seems to show obvious preferences to other students. Think twice before sending your child here."

"Ratchet nasty school. The desks are gross and greasy with gum and other disgusting stuff. Most of the teachers here are helpless and worthless because they don't do anything about bullying, alot of the kids here are judgemental and cruel, and the food here is nasty. On the top floor, there are like only 3 classrooms that have walls and the other classrooms have board stands dividing classrooms up. The classrooms with no walls are so hard to focus in because kids are so loud and annoying in the hallway and other classrooms making it hard to study, work , and focus on tests when their is one going on. Alot of the kids are obnoxious and do stupid stuff in class. They talk when the teacher is talking and it's annoying. Some of them try to pick fights too!"
