"The main building for Madison Apartments is The Diplomat, which was built in 1973. This is the apartment I live in (2015-16), and I have to say do not let the age fool you. There are newer places downtown, but The Diplomat has been owned by the same family its entire life, and that experience shows in all dealing with management. Maintenance requests are handled professionally and in a timely fashion, trash and recycling are straightforward, and the laundry room *almost* always has enough room (waited three times in 33 months). This combined with the location and reasonable rent had me sold. It is a 20-minute walk from Capitol Square, 15-minute walk to the UW Campus, in view of Lake Monona, and three blocks from W Washington Ave and all its bus stops. At $830/month for a one-bedroom, I feel it is well worth it."

"Moving into the Diplomat apartments was the best decision I made when looking for a GREAT apartment in Madison, WI. I chose the Diplomat after looking at 12-13 other apartments in Madison and was immediately impressed by the cleanliness of the building, the brightness of the unit, and the friendliness of Tom and Jill Derr. There was no hesitation about living here and I had no regrets. Whenever I needed anything, Tom was always available. After 20 inches of fresh snow, Tom and his crew shoveled my car out, no questions asked. The laundry room is always sparkling clean and the elevator has pleasant music (LOL). I don't have enough words to express how wonderful it was living in the Diplomat. If I ever move back to Madison, this will be the FIRST place I go for my housing needs. The Diplomat was wonderful and the Derr's are an awesome family. They go the EXTRA mile to make sure your are satisfied. This is a great FAMILY business--not managed by a large company with more properties than they can manage. Well kept, great lake views, great price for location. You won't be disappointed!"
