"Two amazing years have passed, I still love Fusion, and for many amazing reasons. Fusion San Diego is a fairly large campus, making it comfortable to work independently and do activities. The homework cafe, led by Mike Krems, is a place where students can do their homework independently and get help when they need it. Fusion hires only the best of the best as their teachers and administrators, and without the amazing set of crew, I wouldn't have learned all the amazing things I have learned. The math/science team uses very great learning technology, this campus contains a FULL lab with actual specimens and samples. All the math teachers care about your speed of learning, how much you need to review the material, and they let you take your time and write notes in your folder. EVERY SINGLE English/LA teacher is very skilled, starting with Sam, or Samuel, who is my history teacher. He makes sure you learn every single bit of information, and a fun fact, he has written his own book! My English teacher Kara Nepomuceno, NE-PO-MOO-SEN-OH always welcomes her students with a smile, and she allows you to take time, take breaks if you need one, and most importantly, she teaches her classes in a very professional form, using books, online sources like TED ED, and some of the best learning tools you can find. The foreign languages Head Desiree, or she also goes by Des is a very knowledgable teacher when it comes to learning French and Spanish. She assigns reasonable portions of homework and creates tests to prove you are learning. She allows you to use Duolingo, which is such a big help, and she allows you to create online flashcards of inportant terms while you learn. Every teacher is very professional and their passion for creating great learning experience is very highly evident. Thank you all! Before I continue, I would like to shout out some of the amazing staff that Fusion, specifically John, Sheri, Samuel, Desiree, Kara, Emily (Em for short), Adrienne, Josh, Lena, and Marshal. These amazing people make my Fusion experience better, and keep campus life great and add on to the fun. Now on to Campus and safety. Fusion SD is a very safe campus, located in the middle of an office complex. There is a small patio located on the east side of the campus's first floor, where everyone can eat lunch, socialize, and do activities when they are available. At the entrance, the campus is a buzz-to-enter building, so you have to ring a doorbell to enter. As you enter, you pass in front of the watchful eyes of Lena, she keeps campus secure, always monitoring the doors. She also teaches classes if nobody is available. She will update you if your teacher is absent, if a class is cancelled, or if you have a teacher over Zoom. You also MUST sign in before entering. Lena is also your go to person for campus rules, and if she isn't available, go to Adrienne, the Director of Student Development. She will tell you all you need to know of rules as well. She also will give you your schedule prior to you beginning your new educational experience at Fusion. In terms of fun activities on Campus, there are many board games, puzzles, and table sports. In terms of table sports, there is a small pool table, two foosball tables, and ping pong. Snacks are available to purchase, these include chips, fruit snacks, mini muffins, and for lunch, mac and cheese and ramen. These snacks cost from $1 to $2. Cash only. Cash must be presented to the Director of Homework Cafe, AKA Mike. He will give you change if you need it. A microwave and sink are present, where students can heat up their noodles, macaroni, and seasonally, popcorn. Parents are allowed to bring food for their child, however, they can't be delivered during the times classes are in session. Overall, I am very satisfied! I am staying as long as I can!! No regrets Fusion! Thank you for changing my life."
"It’s no overstatement to say that the staff at Fusion Academy San Diego helped save my son. This is one of the most unique learning environments because of their one-on-one teaching method, group homework cafe, and daily teacher reports. I had no idea that our son was not thriving emotionally in his prestigious private school, despite his straight A report cards. Testing revealed ADHD and Aspergers. One-on-one teaching allowed our son to work at his own pace, feel connected and build his confidence. Mainstream schools are designed to teach to the average student in a lecture type format, which doesn’t really engage kids. Fusion’s teaching method is the framework for success for kids who thrive with more interaction. While the Fusion teaching method is fantastic, it’s in the staffing where the magic happens. Fusion hand picks and then trains each teacher. The teaching staff at San Diego are all warm, approachable and supportive. They are also quite knowledgeable in their field. My son did not have a teacher in 2 years who he didn’t like or respect. Asperger kids tend to have high standards because of their own high IQ, so that says a lot. The San Diego branch is small and has a comfortable home-type feel, despite the fact that it’s in a business park. Efforts were made to do community service outings and gaming or movie night for the students and that was appreciated and fun. The homework cafe is run by Mike Krems, who is the most profesional and patient man I have ever met. He encourages the students, addresses social/emotional issues, and keeps students on task with homework. He is also responsible for planning all social events and does a stellar job at it. He had a profoundly positive effect on my son’s social/emotional growth. Mike is an effective communicator and strong leader, as well as one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. The only downside to Fusion San Diego is that the student enrollment is small. We are moving to Fusion Solana Beach just to allow our son an opportunity to make more friends, and the departure is a painful one for us. However, this move could not have been possible two years ago. While we had other professionals outside Fusion weekly, it was the daily work and support given by the Fusion San Diego staff that helped build our son’s confidence, and reminded him to employ the social/emotional skills that he was learning in therapy. While not all the students at Fusion have something like ADHD, the format also works well for those who need a more flexible schedule or who just want to build their confidence and autonomy, and get away from the social pressure of a large middle school or high school. It’s also easier for parents to monitor social media, gaming and bullying in a small school environment. Fusion is expensive, but worth every penny. It changed my son’s trajectory and gave us back the happy kid we once knew. We are indebted to the staff and school for all they have done for our son and our family."
"Finding Fusion was a lifeline for our family. The "normal" experience in a hyper competitive high school was just not working for us and we were desperate for options. The move to Fusion was transformative for our child, who struggled to fit in to the normal structure of traditional school. I can't praise the teachers and staff enough, who understood the struggles we described. They "got it" and offered solutions to help our child graduate high school - and thrive while doing it. Everything changed in our household once my child attended Fusion - first in Solana Beach and then the new campus in University City. The tension and anxiety came way down and the high school experience became fun, instead of something to dread and fear. I feel so lucky that a friend told me about Fusion ... I had no idea something like this existed. I am so grateful to all of the teachers, administrators and supportive staff that helped our family through a very challenging time."
"My son was enrolled in public school and getting good grades but not learning much. After his freshman year in high school, I enrolled him in Fusion San Diego, and he is truly flourishing there. The one-on-one instruction has been so beneficial for him, and the teachers are fantastic. My son is learning a great deal and feels valued and supported by the teachers, staff and administration."
"I wish I could guarantee that your child will have the same wonderful experience my child had. My daughter was struggling mightily in a private, well respected San Diego high school. She became increasingly creative in her excuses as to why she couldn't attend school each day. I had a meeting with the school Psychologist. She suggested that I check out this school called Fusion Academy. I did and I was impressed. I told my daughter to go with her mother and check it out. She did and she was also impressed. Long story short, she became a full time student at Fusion. She very quickly began to thrive. She ended up graduating early and received a hefty scholarship to MSMU in Los Angeles and will be starting there in the fall. I can't say enough about the concept, the staff and the curriculum. The school really works with the student to find the best way to present the information. Because of the one on one system, students only progress after they fully understand the subject matter. My daughter told me that in ways it was more challenging than her previous high school. She could not zone out in class because it was only her and the teacher. She had to stay focused and consequently she really understood the material. I am confident she will continue her excellent habits and make a successful transition to college. Thank you Fusion Academy. You helped a floundering 14 year old girl blossom into a thriving 18 adult!"
