"Unbelievable spot! A inspiring location and story pieced together by a great family. Rooms are accommodating and rich in history. Hotel lounge, complete with a premier drink list is my happy place. This is a must see spot that has enhanced Viroqua, WI into a do everything, do anything weekend stay. One of the best spots in the Midwest!"
"Amazing stay at Hotel Fortney!! Owners and staff are SUPER friendly; location was great on the Main Street of Viroqua. The lounge was vibrant on Trivia Night, and next door are two superb dining establishments. (I think they serve food in the Lounge from the neighboring establishments, but I only hung out in the lounge after eating at the Driftless Cafe next door.). I cannot recommend Hotel Fortney highly enough—can’t wait to go back. Be sure to try out Wonderstate Coffee when there."
"2nd time staying at Hotel Fortney! We love it! We rented the room with the bunk beds and it was perfect for the kids as well as mom/dad. The room and atmosphere is absolutely perfect."
"All staff excellent. This is a solid building with good noise abatement-no earplugs needed. Light blocking draw curtains work and are necessary for street lights. Large room. No in-window/room noisy air unit. No fridge racket. Nice kitchen above. All furnishings solid and comfy except a metal chair-odd. There is an accesible room. Our room did not have safety features in shower-grab bars, non-slip floors. This is NOT a period restored historic hotel. It is my understanding that the building was in very bad shape. The decor is neutral and nondescript. The location is convenient small downtown. There is no greenspace. Would definitely repeat in the off season though weekend rates are higher. The rates for in-season are high considering the lack of breakfast/snacks, exercise room, reading/conversation room, pool etc. typical of hotels. And this is not a major metropolis. And not a scenic location. That is the only critique of this excellent experience in this extremely well thought out and lovingly restored place. I read that a pet friendly room is considered. Don't. This makes it a pet friendly hotel. Owners vary and most have poor control and lack empathy for those who don't love their beloved fido who is not toilet trained, carries numerous diseases, and drives up our insurance rates with bite incidents. ."
"Brian was a life-saver when I had made a mistake with my reservation on NYE. He provided incredibly kind & friendly service. We reserved a deluxe king room. It was extremely spacious. The space was spotless & the heated bathroom floors were a very pleasant surprise bonus. We didn't get to spend much time in the shared spaces, lobbies or amenities."
