"I probably currently have a collapsed lung. I tried to figure out L.A. Care's convoluted directory to know what in-network hospital I could go to... nothing. Called their helpline, and they confirmed that in-network hospitals were not listed on the website. They said I should go to the nearest emergency room and that ER would (magically) know what hospital to transfer me to. Really? Wow. I pay $300 / month for this? You don't think twice about insurance until you're in pain, and I can promise you this is NOT the insurance to get!! UPDATE: An agent from L.A. Care called to clear things up after the fact, and did seem genuinely interested in improving their services. In the age of AI, they definitely need to make it easier to figure out where to go, but I did appreciate that my frustrations were met with some compassion."
"I’ve been coughing up blood for three days, my primary won’t see me, no urgent care will take LA care and I’m still coughing up blood. I’m not sure what these people get paid to do, but it isn’t help anyone. Trying to leave this insurance this week…."
"They haven’t fixed my insurance since signing up. Stuck with a $200 copay just for one medication. They are stealing from the disabled by denying them month after month insurance we are entitled to. The worst they knowingly let CVS steal my food card money. I called when CVS refused to give me my groceries after paying for them. They still haven’t refunded my money to my card and just giving me a run around. Nothing like being disabled and having a corporation treat you like a thief while they rob your grocery money."
"Is this seriously a Health Care provider? The most inefficient, unorganized, inept, obviously working remotely, don’t care bunch of “member relations” staff you would ever want to speak with. Talked to Iris in 'Member Relations" at approximately 4pm today after being authorized for continuity of care and given permission to enroll from another medical insurance carrier. Iris (on a recorded line) patronizingly gave me misinformation, told me that the California Healthcare Office of the Ombudsmen in Sacramento is wrong about everything, then after 10 minutes changed her tune because she realized she was wrong. Earlier today I spoke with four other LA Care staff members after 30 minute wait times each. None of them could do simply what they are supposed to do. One staff member, Marcella, was literally out in a windy place doing something else, then with kids crying in the background, put me on a ten minute hold, then did not fully verify me because she obviously wasn’t looking at her computer screen. This is what California taxpayers get for their hard work, a organization that you have to call over and over again because no one knows what they are doing and will not escalate you to a supervisor or lead. These remote workers need to be monitored so they do their job and don’t waste Californians time."
"If you’re waiting to hear on a grievance, keep waiting because LA Care doesn’t seem to care about their members. I’ve been waiting for 2 months on a resolution that should’ve been resolved a month ago per their words. Sure, they’ll send you letters about paying your bill because that’s when they do “care” BUT no correspondence when it comes to your members needs. Remember, they got fined last year for $55 million because they failed their members. Seems like they haven’t learned their lesson. Do yourself a favor and don’t go with them but if you must, good luck."
