"I've been shopping Vetsch for about 15 years and I make everything from shop and custom furniture to wooden toys to keepsake figured wood boxes - all non-commercial. I typically spend about $1000 a year there. I agree 100% with the positive reviews here that Dave, Peter, & team are a fantastic resource for hardwoods in Rochester. There are some negative reviews here related to picking through the pile for "high end" projects that I wanted to share my thoughts on. I appreciate wanting to have the best material for my project but I also understand that this is a volume business and I act accordingly. I've always been treated with respect and given some deference - mostly related to board width or color matching - for my project considerations. I don't try to pick through the pile because I know I'm paying much less that what I'd pay at a Rockler or Woodcraft store for their hardwood. The stock at Vetsch is well-graded, of good quality, and you get what you pay for unlike buying wood from a big box store where picking, frankly, is a wise practice. If you want to select the "best" boards, you have the ability to pick through many fine examples at the woodworking stores mentioned above. You'll also pay prices commensurate with that level of service. Lastly, as they process boards at Vetsch and find nice figured examples, they stack it in a special area. Ask to see that inventory if you have extra-special projects where you want to really show off the wood grain!"

"While in Rochester, I decided to look for hardwoods to take back to Alabama for my husband to use in his shop. I read reviews for the places around and decided to give Vetsch a try, even though the last couple of reviews stated issues with customer service. I was greeted when I first walked in and the gentleman came outside to talk bc of the noise inside. I explained my needs and that I was hauling the wood home in my SUV. He measured the area inside my SUV and said he could cut any boards I needed. We went back inside and he showed me several boards, got some down from the top track near the high ceiling, and answered all my questions. I picked out the boards and paid. He cut them and loaded them into my SUV. The customer service was outstanding. The quality of wood was great and so were the prices. I'll be stopping by again the next time I'm in the area. Thank you for a great experience and quality wood!"

"Not friendly at all. As an amateur guitar maker I want to make sure I am buying a good piece of wood, but for these people it seems annoying that customers want to take a good look at the inventory. It's sad, because there aren't that many options around these parts."

Prices are great, the quality is superb, and you get to talk about wood with some experts while shopping. The kid at Menard's wouldn't know the difference between oak and maple without reading the label, why reward the for that? Buy from Vetsch."
